Free Agents in the 2009 Offseason
Just wondering who the Chiefs have who will be up for free agency after this year? As far as young players who have shown progress that we may want to resign, old players or first round busts who have large contracts that will be coming off the books, and spots that we might actually have a chance to sure up in free agency. I've seen alot of people mention that we will have money to spend this offseason on either resigning core players, signing top picks long term or even possibly picking up an impact free agent or two, and was wondering where we actually stood or if there was somewhere where all this was already listed?

our free agents are
WR Maurice Price RFA
WR Jeff Webb
OT Adrian Jones
LB Pat Thomas
CB Tyron Brackenridge
SS Jon McGraw UFA
FS Jarrad Page RFA
But the steelers backup QB charlie batch will be a free agent and i think we should go after him.
Also i think we need to sign LB mike peterson if we dont draft a middle linebacker capable of starting

Price was signed by the Pats off are practice squad then released
so he’s no longer on the team. Brackenridge was cut, Jeff Webb will not be resigned, it’s “iffy” over Jones. Page is the only lock for being resigned whereas I won’t be surprised to see McGraw tendered. Same with Pat Thomas.
Batch would be a good coach but not worth taking up a roster spot. I think like all Chiefs I hope our MLB position is shored up in the draft as we dont seem to have good luck w/ FA’s

Don't think luck is the issue
I think up to now, it has been a problem with being willing to go after the “best available” and be willing to pay for him. It seems like Carl is focused on finding the best at a certain value. By the time Carl gets into negotiations, someone else willing to pay the price comes with an offer. We have to decide if we really want quality, or will settle as usual for third best at a reduced cost.
If we target the right guy (young with experience and dominant in his position) he will be of value because he can start immediately and strengthen the position. I really don’t want us to just go with FAs that are “good” just to fill a vacancy. We have those problems now, and weren’t willing to pay the up front price early in Free Agency last year. This year is a different story as far as “the plan” should be concerned. We can get guys from the later draft rounds for that purpose, or guys in FA after the draft if we are really hurting at depth for a position.

I like these guys...
1. Dansby (Cardinals, OLB)
2. Suggs (Ravens, DE)
3. Colombo (Cowboys, RT)
4. Nugent (Jets, K)
5. Hobson (Patriots, OLB)
- These are guys that I think will hit the market. I think Carolina will resign Gross and Peppers. Also, I think Hobson, Nugent and Colombo are very attainable. Suggs and Dansby will take some serious money. I would love Dansby because I think he is the BPA in this years FA market. The Cardinals are in some cap trouble so I think we can get him with a HUGE contract. We could draft a DE with our 1st rounder instead of signing Suggs.
