If Brodie Came Back Today...

Tyler Thigpen has been playing great the last 3 weeks, no doubt about it.  But what if Brodie Croyle was able to come back and play today.  We all know Brodie is Herm Edwards' posterboy. Herm has also been quoted saying that starters should never lose their job due to injury. There really is no sense in messing up our flow and momentum with switching our quarterback, but you never know with Herm.  So that being said, would Brodie Croyle get his starting job back immediatly?

Exactly

You give him a chance to compete with Tyler for the job, but you don’t just hand it back like we did with trent green when damon was doing well. We could have done so much better that year in my opinion if we just would have stuck with Huard. His passer rating was second to PEYTON MANNING!!! Brodie deserves another shot in the NFL

He Would Definitely Not Get His Job Back

Thigpen’s last three games have been so far above what Croyle produced it’s not even comparable. He’s moving the offense, he’s not making turnovers, he’s able to hit targets downfield, and he’s staying healthy.

If Brodie were to come back while Thigpen is still playing at this level and Herm were to give Croyle the starting job again, I’d drive up to Kansas City and burn Herm in effigy in the Arrowhead parking lot. It would be one of the most colossally stupid moves of all time. At least in the Gannon/Grbac situation Grbac showed he was capable of playing somewhat well. Brodie Croyle played like a crap quarterback most of the time he was on the field…he demonstrated nothing to indicate he’s as good as Thigpen’s been the last three games. I’m sure he tried hard, and the injuries weren’t his fault, but even when he was healthy he just wasn’t any good.

I think you're wrong

If he was back, Thigpen would be benched, the spread would go away, LJ would run the ball 30 times a game and all would be concntrating on defense.

That’s Herm’s train of thought. Like it or not.

Huard played MUCH better then Brodie for a stretch…he still didn’t admit he was wrong and put Brodie back in,

Just keep matriculating the ball down the field boys.

That Was Mainly An Ageism Thing

He didn’t like Huard over Croyle (even though Huard was a better QB) because Huard was older and immobile. Thigpen’s not.

But then who really knows what Herm thinks? Or if he thinks at all? But I seriously doubt even he would be stupid enough to give Croyle a starting job again.

I don't think age had anything to do with it

Except for the fact that Huard is going to be retiring soon (he’s 36) and winning this year is not as important as developing a guy that can win for the next 10 years. There was absolutely no benefit to playing Huard over Croyle if they (the coaches) thought Croyle had potential to develop into a good QB.

by ChiefDJ on Nov 13, 2008 4:05 PM CST up reply actions

Except

That Huard was able to get the ball to the receivers more than Croyle could, he was able to move the offense more than Croyle could, and he could stay healthier better than Croyle could.

There would have been no advantage to starting Huard over Croyle if all we needed to develop was a QB. There was an advantage to starting Huard over Croyle with this team because pretty much the entire Chiefs’ offense was young players who needed a QB who could do his job and Croyle couldn’t.

Doesn’t matter, though…Huard and Croyle are both out for this year and neither are likely in the Chiefs’ future plans now that Thigpen’s shown he’s got potential.

Lets see........ if Brody came back today......

He has less td passes than Mark Bradley for one. If got to play we could start a pool on what point of the game he would get hurt. That could be fun. :)

I don't think it's sad at all.

He never showed me anything that told me he could suceed in the NFL.

have you seen my baseball?

It's Sad For Him Personally

I never wished harm on the guy. But I’m not at all sad if the Chiefs move on.

In reality

the NFL is like most everything else, “what have you done for me lately?” That being said Brodie is most likely an awesome guy and has had many a great opportunities, but the daily grind of the NFL and his body just aren’t agreeing right now. And we have no more room on the bench for people that cannot contribute every week “dependably”. I can say at least, he didn’t lose his job because of his football ability, but it was his stability. And I agree with the Gannon points above, but this is totally different. Tyler may or may not have the same ability that Brodie has, but he has the durability to hold up and succeed.

And More Importantly

He’s excelled in most of the opportunities he’d been given. If Thigpen had been performing like Brodie had over his career, then the discussion about whether Croyle might get his job back would probably be a serious one. But he’s run with the opportunity.

CROYLE INJURED AGAIN AT SATURDAY PRACTICE

Kansas City, MO. Brodie Croyle was once again injured while walking onto the practice field today. It was reported he was walking behind the defensive tackling dummy, hanging by a chain. When Defensive tackle Glen Dorsey hit the dummy it swung into Croyle and knocked him onto his buttocks. Early reports say he will be out for 16 years with a bruised buttocks.

When Head Coach Herm Edwards saw this, he was seen standing there looking in amazement with his mouth hanging open and had nothing meaningful to say.

Coach Gailey looked over his shoulder for a moment and then continued his conversation with Chiefs Quarterback Tyler Thigpen.

Gunther Cunningham was overheard saying “#$*&$ $%$#@ *((&&$& *^&$$^”

Coach Krumrie was overheard yelling, “Nice hit dummy!”
