McBride to IR?

Was just reading at Bob's that Turk McBride and possibly Brian Johnston are heading to the Injured Reserve. This spells horrible news for our defense as McBride was the most improved player on defense this year(in my opinion) and after watching Johnston's aggressiveness yesterday I think his comparison's to Jarden Allen don't seem so far-fetched

I have to say comparatively by yesterdays performance alone Johnston appears to be twice the RE Gillberry is. I know he's a undrafted rookie free agent that was signed just a week ago and still needs to learn the system, but Wallace looked like nothing more than a warm body yesterday. As for Johnston he is a steal for a 7th rounder and I'd venture to state he'll earn himself a starting job in the future

Interested to see what new players will be wearing a Chiefs jersey next week

I don't get audio in the bars

so I missed Jones coming out of the game. Who filled in for his spot at RG? I wonder if he is questionable for this Sunday if this spells out another chance for Chris McDuffie who we cut earlier this Spring? I know it’s a long stretch but I’m all for recorrecting mistakes (i.e, Nick Novak)

Ye gods

The CBS guys weren’t kidding during the Chargers game when they said that they expected to see M*A*S*H helicopters flying in for the Chiefs any time.

This is starting to get a little ridiculous.

Rookies

I can understand. Seasoned vets should not be getting hurt as often they are and with the frequencies of injuries we’re having EVERYONE I see is questioning our strength & conditioning. Injuries are a big part of football and it’s apart of the coaching & tranining staffs to be prepared for them by not only having roster depth but also programs in place to prevent and rehabilitate injuries for quick recoveries…

I agree

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Please Correct Me If I'm Wrong

But wouldn’t insuring that his guys are getting the proper strength and conditioning training (by spot-checking the S&C coach and monitoring practice) also be within the purview of the head coach?

There are a lot of reasons people are always on Herm’s ass…mainly because his teams seem to have a lot of problems that are directly related to things he’s supposed to be doing.

It's hard to evaluate talent

…if they can’t play. I understand “rebuilding” by some who post here albeit I don’t agree with some of their assessment’s, but how can you evaluate the talent?
It took almost 2 seasons to figure out Brodie wasn’t the answer after all the injuries. He might have the talent to play and some might have felt he was the second coming of Favre or Montana but unless guys can stay healthy, talent doesn’t matter.

If you look at him (and I’m not a big guy), his physical stature was weak at best.

Just keep matriculating the ball down the field boys.

If You Looked At His College Career

He had trouble staying healthy all the way through it. Guys like that are usually going to struggle even more to stay healthy in the pros, where the players are bigger, faster, stronger and hit much, much harder. No disrespect to Brodie personally, because I’m sure he tried his best and he seems like a good person, but he never demonstrated any kind of ability to be a franchise QB like Thigpen’s shown the last three weeks.

…the ARMS guys…the ARMS ;-)

No Offense To Brodie

But I seriously didn’t hear a damned word he said during “Hard Knocks” when his wife was on-screen. She’s definitely a stunner…the kind that causes car accidents when she’s walking down the street. :)

You didn't hear or didn't understand?

True…but, I never could understand the guy with all the “uhms” and “ahs” and incomplete sentences. But that doesn’t matter as long as the huddle understands the play calling.

I Could Understand Him

I had a lot of soldiers who used “uhms” and “ahs” as standard in their vocabulary, so there wasn’t much of a linguistic barrier. :)

His wife just stole all of his scenes. He did well for himself. :)

Yeah...peak physical shape vs. the guy getting sand in his face

Where is the conditioning coach for Brodie?

I Don't Think That's An Issue Of Conditioning With Brodie

I think he’s just got a naturally slight frame. It’s like Shawn Bradley or Manute Bol in the NBA…you can have them pumping all the iron and eating all the protein they can, but there’s still a limit to how much you can pack onto their frames and how much punishment they can take. Croyle’s just got the kind of build that makes him an injury risk in the NFL…nothing he can really do about that and it’s not a reflection on his conditioning or how hard he works.

by UCrawford on Nov 11, 2008 11:16 AM CST up reply actions

Disagree

He needs to take some roids…ok j/k. But he can bulk up with the right conditioning coach. Sure I agree about Bol, but we’re also talking about a guy that’s +7 ft. That’s why Shaq is outside the norm…he’s tall and big.

The taller a person is, the more difficult to pack weight on…then again there are exceptions to that as well in different sports. Again, I think that with the right Conditioning he could do it. Heck, the guy from SNL back in the 70’s…can’t remember his name blew up. And lets not even discuss Carrot Top looking like a freak…in more ways then he used to.

Piscopo

Steroids played a large role in that I suspect (the change was just so drastic)…and he wasn’t a particularly skinny guy before he became a gym freak. He was more dumpy and out of shape, but he had a good frame to pack on pounds.

Better conditioning and training can help anyone, but I’m just saying there are limits to what it can do as well. Croyle’s had reconstructive knee surgery three times in his career…that’s not an issue of conditioning, that’s an issue of overall physical durability. There’s nothing he could have done about that.

Genetics is a bitch

my buddy’s genes kept him from ever playing sports…the ligaments in his left knee are smaller in diameter than normal.

As Milton Friedman Noted

There is nothing fair about the world into which we’re born or the gifts we’re given (or not given). It’s just a matter of how we utilize what we have. Apparently Brodie Croyle was simply not cut out to be an NFL quarterback because his body’s not built to take the punishment. If he can’t make it in the NFL, I hope he finds something he can do well with because he does seem like a decent guy (judging from what Alabama fans say about the community work he does off the field).

If I were him

I’d spend a lot more time at home with Mrs. Croyle

(of course, if he’s not a pro-football player, she may not be Mrs. Croyle for long =) )

by PVChiefsfan on Nov 11, 2008 2:59 PM CST up reply actions

I Wouldn't Even Make That Assessment

Not every pro athlete’s marriage is a sham based on shallow materialism. Croyle seems like a decent enough kid who’ll be fine outside of a career in pro football and Kellie Croyle isn’t a complete attention whore trying to cash in on celebrity status like Kris Benson’s wife (which seems to be one of the biggest reasons celebrity couples break up). Of course none of us probably know them but they seem like a pretty average couple, all things considered and I’m sure they’ve got as good a chance of making things work as any other couple in America.

Celebrity couples’ chances of staying together seem to increase a lot when they don’t let it go to their heads, and it doesn’t seem like the Croyles’ have. Now Romo and Jessica Simpson, on the other hand…

Another 2 QB week?

If we’re hurting so badly defensively how will we resign Ingle the Elf (especially that LJ will be reactivated)? I’m interested to see how the Shuffle happens and what our starting lineup will be
