Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

But after Gonzalez caught a three-yard TD pass from Tyler Thigpen, he was mugged by safety Clinton Hart in the end zone and the two-point pass was incomplete.

"Just didn’t get the call," Gonzalez said. "I guess they called what he saw. I think they were trying to let us play, but that might have been a little ridiculous."

The Snap That Changed The Game & Notes | Chiefs Football at BobGretz.com

Considering the awful pass interference call against the Chargers that set the Chiefs up at 1st and goal from the one, I can't fault the referees for a no call on the 2 point conversion.

Also, criticizing the officials

Could get him fined. I’m not exactly sure what the criteria is but calling a no call “ridiculous” could be grounds for a fine. Let’s hope not.

Officiating was sub-par yesterday

We were getting mugged at WR all day and got no call. Strangely, I thought the call that we did get on Tony late in the game was actually not interference – it looked like good coverage and a good play on the ball.

In any case, you can never count on a perfectly officiated game. You have to overcome those issues, whether they are for or against you. Plus, officiating had nothing to do with a botched snap on an extra point.

Its beginning to remind me of the NBA

I follow Memphis for the most part and since we have no All Stars, the players never get “the Calls”. It was like forever that Pau Gasol never got the calls until he made All Star a couple years ago. Now that he’s with LA, he is in that class of guys who “get the calls.”

NBA Officiating

Is the worst of any of the pro sports. Used to be baseball, but after the 1997 World Series (and Eric Gregg’s 3 foot wide strike zone for Hernandez and Wright) they started redoing how they evaluated officials on their performances so they could get rid of the non-hackers (and now baseball’s one of the better officiated sports). NBA just tries to pretend there aren’t problems, which is a terrible strategy, especially since officials have more sway in basketball than in football or baseball.

As for the game yesterday, I generally follow a guideline that bad calls happen in sports and most of them even out in the end. Was the two point conversion a missed call? Probably. But then I also thought the call that set us up for the score was bad too, and like some of the Chargers said after the game it’s not like their team hasn’t had their share of terrible calls this season. Bad calls are just something to deal with and most of the time it’s not the main reason for the loss.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

That may be true

But they also had a bad call on the pass to Bowe where he was clearly inbounds with the ball inside the 10 (iirc) two plays before the bogus call we got the benefit of on the TG pass.

In the last 2 minutes of the game we had one catch not given to us that would have put us at first and goal with almost a full minute left to use however we saw fit. Several plays later the zebras made a make up call giving us a pass interference on what looked to be just great coverage. Several plays after that on the 2pt conversion there was an iffy no-call that would have given us another chance to tie/win the game. 2:1 ratio in SD’s favor.

Not to mention the Uber-hold put on Edwards (I think it was, had to watch low quality streaming video of the game from work, jersey numbers are sometimes legible…) who came plowing through SD’s LG-C gap and could have forced a safety which, after we miraculously found a way to get into the endzone for 6 would have had a 1 pt lead without having to kick the pat or go for 2. As a result of the massive no call (don’t know if anyone else remembers the play but Hardwick had his left arm all the way around Edwards’ waist from behind) we ended up settling for a sack on the next play inside the 5 and forcing a punt from the endzone.

Blown calls went in SD’s favor yesterday and they played a hell of a game for the 2nd half, we just couldn’t hold on. Chalk one more “it’s a rebuilding year” up on the board.

No call on holding

That was as big of a hold as I have seen in a long time. Often guys get called for holding and I didn’t even notic it, but on that play I don’t know how the ref missed TWO guys bear hugging our player around the waist from BEHIND.

Poor officiating

No challenge on the Bowe catch, but a challenge on the Bradley 4th down?!? The PI at the end was bogus, prolly a make up call. But then the no-call on the 2pt was bogus. I dont get it. Pretty horrible officiating, and there was no Hochili to blame

Tony should be careful

After there have been so many fines to people who have been critisizing the refs in the NFL this year. Yes the officiating was especially questionable and poor calls at times like this play at the end of the game. But Tony doesn’t need fines, he is such a great leader on the field.
