Croyle Confirms That He Will Start Versus Tennessee
Brodie Croyle confirmed that he will return to the field October 19 (barring any setbacks) to start against the Tennessee Titans with the goal of bringing some stability to the QB position:
"If I’m healthy, I’m going to go," Croyle said today. "I just have to make sure that over the next two weeks that everything keep going the way it’s supposed to be and we don’t have any setbacks. If that’s so, then we’ll be ready to go against Tennessee."
The Chiefs will be going up against a vicious Titans defense after the bye week in hopes of turning what appears to be a dismal season around. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, the Titans will also be coming off of their bye week, so there's unlikely to be any advantage from the two weeks of preparation.
I'm just going to say it now...a turnaround's not going to happen in Week 6 (if ever). Unlike Denver, this Titan defense is a turnover and sack machine. They're averaging three sacks and two INTs per game, and that's while playing against mainly ball-control offenses. How dominant are they? Well, they've blown out three out of five teams with a QB (Kerry Collins) who has yet to throw for 200 yards in any game. And they're averaging over 100 yards rushing per week, despite playing 3/5 of their games versus teams with solid rush defenses (Jacksonville, Minnesota, Baltimore). Croyle will be extremely lucky to make it through four quarters of this game without getting hurt and 300 yards rushing by the Titans isn't out of the question.
Ugh. Just, ugh.

Thanks UC
The fact remains that Croyle still hasn’t outperformed Huard in any category so let’s not catch ourselves thinking this should help the team.

Actually, after last game Croyle got a higher QB rating for 2008
4 interceptions will do that to ya buddy…

But no, there is no reason to think the Chiefs won’t be equally or more abismal failures with Croyle.

I’m fine with Croyle because it’s a change. Might as well look a little different every week if we’re going to be embarrassed.

I'm At The Point
Where my attitude about the games is “Whatever”. Seriously, it’s not like Herm’s suddenly going to grow a brain and become a good coach. He sucks and the Chiefs are going to suck as long as he’s running them.

Is he coming in at
Right tackle?(he-he) What is the over-under on how many plays he lasts? With Tenn. defense it should not take long. We will be even more EMBARRASSED than we were against Carolina, probably LESS than 100yards total offense.

Croyle vs. the Titans???
This screams end-of-career. Hopefully Albert will be back at left tackle and we sack up and put Taylor in at RT. That might buy Croyle a little more time than 0 seconds to throw the ball. Honestly though…I hate to be this negative…We need to have very good trainers and paramedics on the field because the Titans defense is extremely good and our O line is flat out terrible. Brody is in trouble. I don’t even want to watch; he might not walk away from this game. My heart sinks just thinking about it.

Albert not expected back............
I read in a PFW article today that Albert is expected to miss several more weeks before he’ll be ready to return – and that fits with what I’ve heard about the recover time for that injury. It’s a shame, we really need him. I’m also concerned for Croyle. They are really going to come after him – it’s scary !!

Word From The Chiefs
Is that he’ll be back for Tennessee. That was last week.
Pro Football Weekly breaks a good story every once in awhile, but they also publish their fair share of b.s. that’s just rumor and speculation. Always take what they say with a grain of salt.

The coaching staff
clearly thinks we’re out of the woods on our QB situation w/ Croyle returning. These were the same guys bright enough to not sign a contingency plan in the offseason because “Brodie’s our guy”. If low and behold he turns out not to be; well there’s no problem with drifting thru the rest of the season and settling for great picks…
Seriously, I don’t want to see Carl OR Herm have any thing to do with another incoming draft class. We’re creating a losing culture in Kansas City and thats something which should never be allowed to precede. It’s a disgrace to our teams rich history, its a disgrace to the City and a disgrace to Arrowhead. Herm Edwards will leave team rehauled and revamped with youth, but has the process cost us our team’s prestige?
It’s been a sobering experience watch them play football this season, but as a fan its taught me a lot more about the game and its overall experience

Look at it this way...
Huard reminded the ‘Huardattacks’ that he’s not a ‘transcendent’ QB (and Herm Edwards how too much conservative coaching can kill). That said, Huard is not as bad as he looked against Carolina, (he’s got two good (no sarcasmo) moves: PA handoff to LJ and TG across the middle, and the O-line was not making the former a possibility).
SO, you got Brodie Croyle for the remainder of his natural life (not very long unless he’s unusually blessed, in which case, yatzee!).
OR, we’ll encounter INGLAPOLYPSE NOW, and with what 3…, 4 weeks he should have at least learned the LJ dive left, LJ dive right, put it 8 ft high in the middle so only Tony can get it, throw it far far away and hope D-Bowe is in the neighborhood, and in case of crushing failure pathetic sweep/draw to Jamaal Charles.
Actually, from that assessment alone maybe the PARADE should try out for Chiefs’ QB, the PARADE could certainly cultivate a PRO-NFL quality Aaron Rogers trash stash…

Herm's game plan for Tenn.
Take a knee on first down. Take a knee on second down.
Take a knee on third down. On 4th and 22, punt.
Actually, this game plan would have been more effective than our offense was against the powerhouse that is Carolina.
Think how much time we can burn off the clock with this game plan. Think how many fewer interceptions we’ll throw.
That’s what Herm is all about, play chickenshit offense and hope the other team might lose to you once in a while, often enough to keep your job.

Less effective
The dive play is less effective than punting on first down. And less effective than just taking a knee, because while both plays always lose at least two yards, the dive could lead to turnovers. Got to play it safe in Hermball. This isn’t arena football.

I think it was on ESPN (during a game or during one of his pointless appearances I’m not sure)…he said that the team should go for a field goal on 3rd down because if they missed they could take another chance on fourth down. :)

Success for Brodie or for the Chiefs with Brodie?
Pass enough to keep the D from stacking the box.
Whoa there pie in the sky… gotta walk before we can run (effectively). Let’s say a pass for over 10 yards, theoretically in the 1st half of the game, and maybe dream about it happening on a 1st down.
Protection induced fumbles are just as prevalent as ‘gunslinging’ induced int’s these days, so let’s pray for 3 or fewer combined fumble/int’s.
Honestly, that plus coming out healthy is a success for Brodie, even in a shut out. The Titans are a better team than Carolina in the PARADE’s opinion (not that there isn’t a glimmer of hope in homefield, returning QB, and desperation motivations).
The Chiefs + Brodie would have a reason to be hopeful if there are 2-3 drives that result in 7 points. I’m not sure Herm grasps how important to a young team’s psyche getting that 7 is. I don’t care if he marches it to the 2 every time and LJ has to punch it in. Sustained drives that end in touchdowns and not being injured is all we ask.

Success
Staying healthy the full game, no turnovers and at least one TD (or leading a drive that results in a TD), completing over 60% of passes, keeping the team within 10 points of the Titans with competent offensive performance.

Just Qualifying My Standards
I was going to write “keep us within 10 points” but if the Tennessee offense melts down and they only score 9 points and we get a field goal while Croyle stunk all afternoon I don’t want someone saying that “Croyle kept us close” when all he got us was 3 points while playing like crap. I mean more like if Tennessee scores 30 points we need to score 21…just an indication that he can try and keep us competitive when another team is scoring points too.
