why is herm still here? why is peterson still here?
I cant take it anymore, im done. No one is taking any of the blame. I seen this coming when i was lied to 3 years ago. Remeber when Edwards was asked about going to Kansas City and on live television, he said New York is my home, the very next day (or two) he is the new KC head coach.....THEN!...While Green is out and Huard does very well, Green gets better and starts the playoff game........Edwards states "That if trent runs into trouble i have no problem putting Huard in" Well sorry kids ...he was nothing but trouble....and Huard who brought us there, never went in. That was just the beginning. I dont know if Herm has collected dirty pictures of peterson or what, but he needs to go....hell pick up the old raiders coach....show that we mean buisness, the players are not responding. If Peterson CANNOT do this...then he should go. Stop lying to the fans, the players and to yourself. Go away! I could accept defeat if we tried other avenues on the coaching staff. I am a chiefs fan! But this isnt the chiefs.

Who would fire them?
This team doesn’t have an owner.

It seems
as though Peterson is more of the Owner than Hunt. I realize Hunt’s ownership style is more of a behind the scenes guy, but come on! Where the hell are you Clark!?!?

Why is Gunther still here?
its patently obvious that the game has passed him by, either through a lack of talent evaluation and/or scheme

Why is Dick Curl here?
Funny name aside, he was a complete failure as a “clock management” guru and is an even worse failure as a QB coach.

Not enough pressure on the owner
In pretty much every other NFL city, there would’ve been a ton of pressure to fire Peterson in like 1999. And it would’ve been justified.
The way it works everywhere else is, if you don’t produce in the postseason, you pay the price, because no one is just granted the position of NFL GM for Life. You produce or you go, period, that’s how it works. You get a fair amount of time, like 5 full years. No one reasonable gives a GM less than that. But generally, if you can’t get the job done in half a decade, then the fit isn’t right and it’s time to move on and let someone new have a chance. Nothing personal, that’s just how it works. You move on as a GM and you get another shot, because you haven’t spent 20 years in the same place winning nothing, ruining a franchise and your own reputation.
Except in KC, for some reason.
Peterson has lasted like 4 times as long as he should have. It’s just shocking in today’s NFL that he’s still on the job. The dozens of former GMs who actually won playoff games since 1994 but still lost their jobs can’t believe Peterson’s still employed. Everyone’s pretty much laughing at the idea that he’s still got his job.

It's Like Posnanski Said
It’s just frustrating being the fan of a poorly run football team.
I’m willing to give Clark Hunt the benefit of the doubt to a point…but he’s quickly approaching that point the more the Chiefs get blown out.

Guys, Guys, Guys
Peterson’s and Edward’s contracts are up after the 2009 season. Considering this is the first year of rebuilding I say we give them one more season after this one. I know, I know, but the main way for success is to have consistency. Give them one more offseason to turn it around and officially put them on the “hot seat” for that season. If we don’t like what we see I’m sure we will have a brand new staff come 2010.

Consistency
The only consistency that you get when you keep around a GM who hasn’t won a playoff game in a decade and a coach who’s teams get blown out on most weeks and look like they haven’t prepared for their games is the consistency of losing. Rebuilding is not an excuse for the piss-poor performances this team put out on the field last week. Being young is not an excuse for that kind of performance. Incompetent coaching is to blame…Herm didn’t get this team ready to play. There’s not a youth movement around that’s going to improve when the head coach doesn’t put in the work required to succeed at his job.

It's the only option
Because you honor a contract. It’s the reason they’re generated.
Given the track record, Clark is not going to pull the plug on guys he’s obligated to pay regardless. Right?
And they deserve another year, sigh.
by AngryJesus on Oct 7, 2008 7:52 AM CDT 0 recs
I think either Chris or UCrawford did a post several months ago on the contracts
Most contracts are not honored through their respective “end”. That is just the way the game is played. It’s not like normal business dealings. That is why most bonuses are guaranteed on the front end of the contract. I believe UCrawford could better clear this up.

Contracts
Everyone looks at contracts and thinks that they’re guaranteed…they’re not, especially in the NFL. If this team continues to implode, assuming that Clark Hunt actually cares about the product on the field (and I believe he does) a contract’s probably not going to save Herm and Carl’s jobs after this season because I doubt anyone will put up with a season full of blowouts from a coach who appears like he doesn’t know what he’s doing.
And if it does, well then I guess we know exactly what we can expect from the Chiefs for as long as Hunt owns the team.

That is what worries me the most
And if it does, well then I guess we know exactly what we can expect from the Chiefs for as long as Hunt owns the team.
Clark’s apparent silence on the matter. I am not looking for him to be Jerry Jones or Al Davis, Lord help us, but it just seems to me that Clark could make a statement to the public assuring us he at least sees and cares about whats happening. I thought that was one of the reasons for his interviews in the off season, to become more involved.

That May Not Be His Style
He doesn’t strike me as a guy who needs to be the center of attention. But that’s not to say he’s not doing stuff behind the scenes. I just did a FanPost wondering if the Chiefs’ coaching staff was rushing back Croyle because they were starting to feel pressure about their jobs…apparently his shoulder’s still injured. And if so, that would seem to indicate that there is pressure being put on the coaching staff to start showing results.
We’re just not going to know for certain until the end of the season or until Herm or Carl gets fired (whichever comes first).

Firings
You guys are makin me nuts! Herm inherited a crummy defense and a mirage of a great offense. Probably should have torn it apart when he got here. Was that even an option? I mean were the GM and owner on board with that? This the first year of a massive rebuild. They will be frustratingly inconsistent. Having Croyle hurt again has not helped. We are short players at several key positions MLB, WR, RG, RT, RDE not to mention young. How does firing Edwards now accomplish anything? Will it make you all feel better? Is that what’s best for the team? NIMO. Another solid draft will help. Paul Brown could not win this short handed. SEE IT THROUGH. That is the way out of this hell.

If Carl Peterson Hasn't Been To A Super Bowl In 20 Years
And he’s hired a coach who’s got a losing record with a reputation for questionable playcalling and game management skills, who gets blown out by teams that were every bit as bad as the Chiefs were last year, what on Earth makes you think that they’ve suddenly found the magic mixture that will eventually take this team to a Super Bowl? Because he decided not to spend on free agents and build only from the draft? Please…by that rationale Detroit and Arizona should have been playoff contenders long ago because they never sign good free agents and they draft in the top ten almost every year.
You have to have good coaching to develop those players and a management team that can identify those coaches and draft players that cater to their strengths…we’ve got neither. All we’ve seen since Marty Schottenheimer left is Carl Peterson casting around in vain for a replacement with each successive hire worse than the one before. Herm Edwards represents the low point. And if you think that Herm’s doing anything but taking a bunch of young players, giving them half-assed outdated game plans, and teaching them how to lose badly to rotten teams, you’re just not paying attention.

What positive has come of Herm coming here?
We have FOURTEEN WINS in three years! Oh he is doing awesome, this year is a carryover from last, that was a good year wasn’t it. We are getting blown out by young teams WITH FIRST YEAR COACHES. Herm cannot put together a souund game plan to save his life. We get these players with all kinds of potential, we are supposed to trust him to develop them? I have vever liked this hire, never will. He is stuck in the 90’s football, and he thinks he is the next Marty, he is not, he cannot get players to play like Marty did. Look at Miami, they brought in a new HC, a new guy to run the fotball side of things, and are on the right track in LESS than a year. Herm is not the guy!

And Unlike Herm
Marty was actually able to develop young quarterbacks.
Well, not the crap QBs that Carl drafted of course, but he knew how to bring along guys who actually had talent (Kosar, Brees, Rivers).

All CP needs is a little more time
Yep, just give Carl Peterson a little more time to get adjusted to his job. That’s all it will take. A few more decades and he’ll have everything under control. Don’t most NFL GMs stay on the job after 15 years without a single playoff win, and no Super Bowl trips in 20 years? Or do they?
by Offense of the 70s on Oct 7, 2008 4:31 PM CDT 0 recs
Exactly
I always find it amusing how people miss the irony of Carl Peterson’s “five year plans”. Apparently the people who somehow think that this iteration will be any different than the ones before it have never heard of the Soviet Union…otherwise they’d realize that autocratic leaders who fail to admit mistakes (like Carl) almost never do better with their new plans than their old plans. Telling the masses that “everything’s changed this time” is just a b.s. scam to distract them from the fact that nothing’s really changed at all, because the same people are still running the show.
