Troy Smith anyone????
Look, it is obvious that our current choices at QB are like trying to decide which hand you would rather have amputated (no pain-killers of course) and our O-Line has the protection ability of a fishnet condom, I recommend going after Troy Smith. Baltimore seems hell-bent on proving that drafting Joe Flacco was not a mistake while a talented player like Troy Smith languishes on the sidelines, why not?
-He's young. Since we seem to be committed to this youth movement he could be a QB to build around.
-He's mobile. Our line can't block ANYBODY, ANYWHERE, at ANYTIME. Troy Smith can move, he can make plays with his feet plus he can throw on the run.
-He's accurate. Okay, this is relative when compared to Tyler Thigpen.
-He won more games the Brodie Croyle. Yeah he's only won a single game as a starter but he even showed incredible promise in the games that he played in and lost. Here's his stat line from the four games he played in last year.
Passing
| Year | Games | Attempts | Completions | Comp % | Yards | TDs | Interception | QB Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2007 | 4 | 76 | 40 | 52.6% | 452 | 2 | 0 | 79.5 |
| Career | 4 | 76 | 40 | 52.6% | 452 | 2 | 0 | 79.5 |
Rushing
| Year | Games | Rushes | Yards | Average | Touchdowns |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2007 | 4 | 12 | 54 | 4.9 | 1 |
| Career | 4 | 12 | 54 | 4.5 | 1 |
Total offense
| Year | Games | Plays | Yards | Average | Touchdowns |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2007 | 4 | 88 | 506 | 5.8 | 3 |
| Career | 4 | 88 | 506 | 5.8 | 3 |
Pretty good numbers and he played in four count them FOUR consecutive games without a injury. BEAT THAT BRODIE!!
Seriously, why not Troy Smith? We won't make the playoffs. Peterson has shackled us with LJ for another couple of years (people thought I was crazy when I said let him go). Our rookies are going to take some time to develop and I don't think Herm or Carl are going anywhere anytime soon. Why not throw the dice on a guy who's done the right things to deserve a opportunity?
Troy Smith for QB '08!

Good Thoughts
The only hang up I would see is that Baltimore, from what I hear, is going to be dumping Kyle Boller at season’s end which would leave Troy Smith behind Joe Flacco – a very nice back up.
I DO hope your ideas can come to fruition. However, as with most quarterbacks, if they’re valuable then their current employer will do whatever it can to hang onto him.
Oh, and welcome to AP!

Boller will be gone
and the Ravens don’t have much invested in Smith (5th rd pick) so they would have no problem keeping him as a backup unlike the Cleveland situation where most likely Anderson would be traded.

I wouldn't trade for Anderson
Especially if there is increasing suspicion that the team won’t keep both Quinn (whose contract is incentive laden) and Anderson who just signed a $24 million deal.

Totally agree
I was just saying that Cleveland wouldn’t want to keep Anderson as a backup because his contract has stipulations of guaranteed money if he makes the team. I am not for trading for him at all.

Not gonna happen
because it would cost draft picks in the trade which are vital to our rebuilding success. Besides, as primetime pointed out, I think Baltimore has plans for Smith because Boller’s career is over there. We’re not gonna trade for any QB because it would cost us too much. Unfortunately we have to tough it out with the inadequate scrubs we got and look to next year for a new QB
Realistic/legitimate options include Boller, JP Losman, Patrick Ramsey, and Alex Smith. Where we’re at now…….I would love to a healthy anyone of them

Only Viable Option On That List Is Losman
Boller and Smith have had serious shoulder injuries the last couple of years. Ramsey’s been an underwhelming QB his entire career (55.9% career completion rate, interception prone) and hasn’t been able to secure a job despite playing for a couple of teams that desperately needed QBs. He’s basically a poor man’s Damon Huard. Would he be a worthwhile reserve? Sure, probably…but we need a starter.

err: Losman's not coming
He’s young and still talented and with the state we’re in – would you come to KC for a starting gig? He’s gonna be fielded by teams like Minnesota who are actually good just need improved QB play. As we very well know, our QB situation is just as dire as our O-Line needs. So as you and I both know its just not insert new QB & GO…
As big fan’s naturally we want to see our team play and become better, but unfortunately just wishing doesn’t make it happen. I personally can’t see Losman landing in KC and he’ll be ready to win now and not suffer on a bottom cellar team. I would like nothing more for him to come, but the realistic part of me see’s Ramsey a likely candidate considering franchise history w/ Bono, Krieg, Grbac, etc.

Depends
On who the head coach and GM are next year. If it’s Herm and Carl I don’t think there’s a chance he ends up in KC unless we pay him superstar bucks. If it’s someone else, maybe.

Before
Smith’s injury in the preseason he was looking to be the starter in Baltimore. He was playing very well. It’s a good idea thats not likely to come of anything.
