I Overestimated Damon Huard
I'll now vomit back up that crow. Why do I go back and forth like this? Because I have no other choice and there is no good choice at quarterback.
I overestimated how much playing one of the worst passing defenses would mask Huard's numerous deficiencies. He played without poise and without the ability to even sling the ball forward, which is less than Croyle or Thigpen has shown this season. He missed the throws when he needed to and turned the ball over. That's the biggest key for this team. With some teams you can survive turnovers. Not this offense. It's part of the fundamental elements of the Herm philosophy. And it completely failed against the Panthers
He's obviously not a long term answer at 35 and yeah, he can't throw downfield. And it turns out it matters in this offense, because we need 1 to 2 big plays in the game just to keep pace. We're never going downfield anyway, but we need to at least be able to make the DBs back up a few steps. No one should start at quarterback, and we should go direct snap with Jamaal Charles.
Kill me. Where's the alcohol?

are you defending huard today?
I’ve got no problem with saying he should still be starter, but c’mon, spade’s a spade today.

No, no. He stunk it up!
It was a craptacular performance. He was so bad he did the imposible. Overthrew a receiver.

He Wasn't Good Today
But I suspect that even if Croyle was available Huard would have been playing eventually this week anyway after McIntosh let him get creamed on some of those free shots he let the defensive linemen have. Charles Johnson looked like an All-Pro out there going up against our crap RT.

+1
I have to agree UC, it all starts with the o-line, and today was absolutely pathetic. I’m now firmly of the opinion that we should start Richardson, no matter how raw he looks – unfortunately I don’t see any option other than Brian De La Puente to replace Jones, and I know nothing about the guy. I really wish they still had Chris McDuffie around at this point – he’s actually starting to look good.
I don’t see how we can get better until we can pass and run block consistantly. Sacintosh has to go. And Jones with him.
Now to continue drowning my sorrows in alcohol…

They're Both Terrible
McIntosh is so bad that other teams are foregoing rushing our QBs blind side to put their best rushers up against him. Today was a perfect example, and the Panthers didn’t even have their best rusher on him…they had Charles Johnson, who had all of .5 sacks in his two year career before today, going against McIntosh and our right tackle made Johnson look like Reggie White. Jones was terrible in New York as a tackle, he’s a failure as a guard here and I think the only reason he’s still starting is because he’s one of “Herm’s guys”. He’s got no business being on that line.
I think McDuffie’s still available, by the way. And I’m all for bringing him back.
