Half Season Draft Prediction... Sorry I'm on adderall
With the season reaching it's midpoint, and me becoming board with the standard disappointment tone that has been set with this season, I thought it would be interesting to give you my draft predictions for 2009 based on the performances/expectations of the 2008 season. (I'd like to see myself as the next great Mel Kiper Jr. or Todd McShay but in reality i'm just an arrogant college student with optimism being the foundation of my beliefs)
My problems, as well as I'm sure as yours, lie within the offensive line, LB Corp, and Safeties. Likewise, these are the areas in which I would like to spend most attention to. Many of you will disagree and rightfully so, you have your own opinion, but this is what we can spend our time doing instead of mindlessly repeating and declaring our woes for the Front Office and Coaching Staff. Discussion about our future, in my mind, is the best way to draw attention away from such babel. In summation, I present to you what...
Dono J. O'Dono 2009 NFL Draft Prediction, pt. 1 (Oct 27, 2008)
In my first edition of my Mock Draft, I would like to create the most ideal draft; however, this will NEVER happen. Notwithstanding, my delusions get the best of me and I present to you the 2009 Chiefs, sans Carl Peterson and Herm Edwards... They'll get more realistic as time passes.

well...
1) I don’t think we go LT in Round 1 after Albert has looked as good as he has as a rookie who missed most of camp and all of the preseason.
2) If a guard is the best player available, we could feasible pick him in Round 2, but we’d have to know he was at least the next Brian Waters, if not the next Will Shields.

Duke Robinson
I’ve seen him going in round 1 in some mocks so I would be content with him in the second.
I also don’t think we’ll take a LT at the top of round 1 but I like your line of thinking ….OL OL OL

No chance Robinson last until the 2nd round IMO
A lot of people say he is a better guard than Albert was. I am starting to think you are right about not taking a LT in the 1st round since Albert looks like the guy, so that leaves DE. Orakpo or Johnson?

DE
Is becoming as big of a need as QB.

Agreed.
We need a consistent rush and it doesn’t look like a QB will be the pick if we pick that high. I keep trying to remind myself that that are still winless teams out there, and it is possible that we win a few and pick around 4th ro 5th again. I love the draft so much! Why is speculation so much fun?

Asomugha
I’d be curious to hear your reasoning on him. It’s my understanding that he’ll hit free agency and be a HOT commodity. Corners are very well paid and, in my opinion, we’ve got a couple of good ones at a fraction of the cost.
The more I see of Andre Smith, the more I want him…

He would warrant...
over a 70 million dollar contract. Too rich for my blood considering we have to address other needs. Besides the Raiders are probably going to franchise this guy again in all likelihood if they can’t agree on an extension.

Who is Jasper Brinkley?
I am going to have to check look him up…

USC
Not that USC….South Carolina. He had a twin brother. If I’m not mistaken, Jasper is the LB ( I could be wrong but my internet is incredibly sketchy right now and taking me forever to look it up).

Here is what Walter Football says about him
Jasper Brinkley, South Carolina
Height: 6-2. Weight: 257.
Projected 40 Time: 4.58.
Projected Round (2009): 5-6.
5/11/08: Jasper Brinkley was a late first, early second-round prospect before suffering a nasty injury during the 2007 season. He has to prove himself all over again this year.
2007: Jasper Brinkley is out for the year with a knee injury. He may apply for a medical redshirt and return to South Carolina in 2008.
A member of the All-SEC First Team, Brinkley is a monstrous linebacker who will be able to play numerous positions on an NFL team because of his impressive size and speed. Brinkley and Vince Hall, the top inside linebackers of the 2008 class, will be hoping James Laurinaitis and Rey Maualuga stay in school.
14th ranked ILB per Walter, side note: Daniel Holtzclaw is ranked #7.

Jasper is an inside LB
his twin brother Casper was a D End at South Carolina. I found different stats on Jasper at Pro Football Weekly: 6’2 275 lbs. and runs a 4.75 40.

What do you have...
against our safeties. I think they are playing fine. Jared Page is a pretty solid 7th rounder if you ask me. Our priorities should be in this order.
1. QB – I’m for signing JP Losman if no underclassmen declare, which is what I’m betting on. I’m also for bringing in a 6th rounder from the draft.
2. RE – I’m thinking this is our 1st rounder (they are so rare and I don’t think one is going to make the free market) I was thinking of Orakpo of Texas, guy is a beast.
3. RT – We got to re-establish our power running game and I’m torn on this one. I’m leaning more to a 2nd round choice like a Phil Loadholt of OK, he is 350 lbs.
4. MLB – We have to stop the damn run. I like the Vilma signing, its likely he might be let go by the Saints considering they like his back-up and they have to give up draft picks if they sign him to an extension.
5. RG – Another position vital to a power running game. I’m think we should get this kid Urbik from Wisconsin who is very mobile yet big. 3rd rounder
6. WR – This position is going to have to take a back-burner due to all the other holes. The depth really at this position isn’t really there in this years draft so I’m for drafting Pat White (QB) from West Virginia in the 4th and converting him into a WR/PR. Like Randle El in Washington.
7. K – Maybe Barth will work out, but if not we got to bring in a proven vet. I’m sick of rookies and journey men. There are actually a lot out there. I’m thinking Nugent from NY will reunite with Edwards in this offseason.
8. OLB – Another position that lacks depth in the draft. We could probably pick up someone like Victor Hobson of the Patriots who is tailer made for a SLB in a 4-3. That would make 3 former Jets coming to play for Edwards.
9. CB – We got nothing really behind Carr or Flowers except a dude who is seriously taking up cap space. I like Word-Daniels from Gerogia Tech, played under Gailey. He’s another prototype cover-2 guy (6’0") and could be a steal in the 5th round.
10. C – We need more depth in our interior offensive line. I’m actually all about moving Waters to C and Niswanger to LG so this guy could be one of their eventually replacements. I think we got another 6th rounder from the Bucs. If so we should pick up Fletcher from Stanford. Short/Stout/Smart. If we don’t have that pick than I think we might still be able to get him in the 7th.

By the way...
If Pat White works out that would be awesome because his nickname is “The Chief”. What do you guys think? Is this realistic? I think all of these moves can get done, however, I’m skeptical about my decision to draft Phil Loadholt in the 2nd for mere value reasons. Maybe an Alex Boone from Ohio State would make more sense. Offensive Tackles tend to dramatically drop off after the 1st round, but it might change this year considering there was a record eight taken last year, which means many teams might be looking at other areas.

Not a fan of Losman at all
My ideal situation would be to draft an OT or DE in the 1st, then draft a qb in the 2nd and if Thigpen proves he can handle it keep him around next year with the rookie holding the clipboard for the season. I would like to draft a RG and a MLB in rounds 3/4, after that who knows at this point. I like Pat White and could see him succeeding in that position.

My only thing...
about drafting a QB in the 2nd is that there are none to draft. Painter and Harper having been sucking it up this season. Not to mention this draft is the weakest in terms of signal callers in years. (just our luck) I would rather draft Daniels in the later rounds. Why don’t you like Losman? He can throw the deep ball and is fairly mobile. He was playing pretty good last year before he went down with an injury and Edwards took over.

I guess I'm just sick of the Chiefs getting the leftovers.
Since I’ve been alive the Chiefs haven’t developed their own qb, and I’m tired of it. I think every other team in the NFL has atleast tried to draft a qb in the draft except for the Chiefs. It has worked for us in the past, but I just want change across the board. If we were to get Losman next season I would be all for it, but I just want to see us try something different, instead of the same old formula.

I agree...
and I’m all for drafting a Bradford. But, I’m not draft Straford in the first. Its just not worth it. Losman to me is the only viable option at QB next year. I’d rather draft a quarterback in 2010 when Tebow, Bradford, McCoy and Sanchez come out.

I agree on waiting for a 1st round QB, but we need to draft one this year
Here are a few guys I wouldn’t mind looking at later in the draft: Rhett Bomar,Tom Brandstater, and Chase Holbrook
