Your Chiefs Mid-Morning Update
via ESPN.com
- Check out the post game comments at The Mothership. Pretty typical stuff.
- Steven at AA needs to Thigpen play consistently before he jumps on the bandwagon.
- Naturally, Jon at MVN is happy with the results yesterday, even with the loss.
- If you read my game recap, you know that I disagree with what Nick Athan at WPI has to say about Chan Gailey. No way, absolutely no way should any offensive coordinator of this offense be canned after one year. It's simply not fair. You don't fire a a chef if he doesn't cook up a great meal with inferior ingredients.
- Chris at KC Chiefs Fanatic doesn't think the Chiefs' QB problems are close to being solved.
- Gretz- Chiefs go college with their offense.
- Bob Gretz mentions a big reason why the Chiefs lost yesterday- special teams play.

Leon Washington
Does anyone find it ironic that the one reason we lost the game is Leon Washington – who we traded for Herm.
Herm Edwards - the new Art Shell.

What's the word on Tamba Hali?
He looked like he was tapping his knee when the trainers came out. Leon Washington is a stud.

He looked pretty good at LE, but now the right side is weak.
We really need to draft a pass rushing DE or sign one in FA.

I Think He Was Faking
The Jets were running a no-huddle offense and two of the players on our line had lost their shoes (Hali, and Tyler). Kind of stupid to fake the injury since it cost us a timeout anyway, but I could see why he did it.
Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

Wasn't there a rule change this year
that talked about Off players grabbing the face mask of defenders? Or am I thinking college?

I found it
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d809f6279&template=with-video&confirm=true
Grasping the facemask by all players, including offensive players, will continue to be strictly enforced. Specific attention is to be given to the runner who twists, turns, or pulls the facemask of the defender who is trying to make the tackle.
Runners and tacklers are to be treated identically when this occurs. This action is a personal foul and a 15-yard penalty.
Wonder what happened with the picture on this post?

Looks like it should have been
a sack for a loss and another 15 yards.

Farve didn't twist or pull the facemask
You can still stiff arm as long as you don’t turn the other players head. And in live game speed it was very quik that he did this, it was more like the incidental face mask that they no longer call.

It says specific attention will be given to the severity (wists, turns, or pulls). Grabbing is grabbing and that in itself is the penalty.
As much as has been questioned about how the Chiefs were screwed on call after call, I don’t see how you can defend it at all.

Watching it live
When I saw the play I didn’t feel it warrented a penalty, it was very quick and seemed like a good stiff arm to me.
Now there were a lot of other plays that I thought the Refs totally screwed us on but I didn’t feel that way on that play. Also lookin at that photo I don’t see him “grasping” the face mask, it looks like a mostly open hand shove to me, but to each his own.

The game doesnt have audio at the bar I watch at
and I thought I was seeing things – but is it official Tamba is back starting @ LE? Or was this only a one-game basis? I think there’s no coincidence he registered his 1st sack the game in which returns to his NATURAL position. I’m a believer in not messing w/ what works and it appears to me Tamba is our best LE and we will get the most out of him playing there. I was starting to get worried, I mean REAL worried about his progress this year but yesterdays performance reaffirms my belief he’s just a natural born left defensive end. I was watching him and thinking he was doing a great job at pressuring the QB and that was BEFORE the sack
Maybe it finally occured to Herm it ain’t working w/ Tamba on the right side. McBride fills Allen’s void better
