John From Gang Green Nation
This is John from Gang Green Nation here to answer any questions you may have about the New York Jets. Ask me anything about the Jets in the comments section, and I'll answer it. My Jets are coming off a very disappointing loss to Oakland and looking to bounce back. Here's to a good game on Sunday at the Meadowlands, hopefully a bit more watchable on both ends than Week 17 last year.

Welcome John
In your humble opinion, do we have any sort of advantage because Herm Edwards was in NY in 2005? Is anything the same?
Tight Ends
How are the tight ends looking? I know Chris Baker was pissed off during the offseason because he was the lowest paid yet highest producer on offense. Dustin Keller fulfilling expectations?
How happy were you
When Herm left the Jets, to come destroy our team? Are you guys happy with Favre?
We acknowledge how bad our Chiefs are right now
Is there anything about the Chiefs that worries you, aside from the “looking past” them factor?
Honestly, aside from that, I am having a hard time thinking of something that may worry Jets fans.
Draftnik questions.
- Gholston, Gholston, Gholston. It’s only a matter of time before this guy becomes the next Shawne Merriman. How has his development come along? Has he been every bit the promising, but struggling player that a rookie of his stature can be?
- Dwight Lowery had some nice measurables, but have they translated to the field at all?
- How did the story goe with Ainge? What looks of the guy did you get?
- Is there any positives from local poster boy Marcus Henry? Great guy here in the midwest, just give me some positive spin and I’ll be happy.
Brad Smith
What is his current role and do you see his role expanding in the future? Also, how has the signing of Alan Faneca worked out for the OL?

What do you think of this deal...
We give you Herm Edwards back, and in return, Brad Smith comes back to Missouri and joins the Chiefs. Any takers?
HELL YES
We can throw in Gunther and Dick Curl as well.

How about this deal...
We give you Herm, you give us 3 cases of Yuengling and a years worth of Disco Fries?
Are you really...
a Jets fan or could your old man not get Giants’ tickets so the family migrated to the Jets?

-I don’t see Herm Edwards having any advantages. Only eight of the team’s twenty-two starters were on his last Jets team in 2005. The team’s offensive and defensive schemes are also completely different too so guys like Shaun Ellis and Bryan Thomas have completely different responsibilities than they did with him. Jerricho Cotchery never saw the field under Herm and blossomed into a high quality starter right after he left so it’s not clear Herm recognized his ability when he was Cotchery’s head coach.
-The tight end position has not been utilized by the Jets all that much in recent years, which is kind of surprising since the offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer came from San Diego, which makes a lot of use of Antonio Gates. The position has been quiet this year, although Baker had a big game last week against Oakland. Ditto Dustin Keller against San Diego. The third tight end, Bubba Franks, was Favre’s teammate in Green Bay for eight years.
-Even though Herm made the Playoffs three times in five years with the Jets, a lot of fans were fed up with his inability to make even the most basic in game decisions and were thrilled to see him go. The fact the pick the Chiefs gave the Jets turned into Leon Washington makes fans all the happier.
-I hate to look past anybody, but I’m feeling pretty good going up against a winless team with Thigpen at quarterback and no Larry Johnson.
-Gholston has been a complete nonfactor when he has seen the field. Just finding time has been tough for him because the two starting outside linebackers Calvin Pace and Bryan Thomas have played so well.
-The secondary is dangerously thin so Lowery’s progression has been a God send. He had a great first week against Miami. Since then, he has experienced the ups and downs any rookie has, but the coaching staff loves his instincts. He is probably the best cover guy on the team other than Darrelle Revis.
-Ainge was a disappointment during the preseason and was badly outplayed by another rookie, Brett Ratliff. It’s frankly a surprise the Jets decided to keep him on the roster and go with four quarterbacks.
-Brad Smith has been a special teams standout and a great gadget player. He’s very dangerous with the ball in space, but his route running has been slow to develop. He also drops way too many passes. At this point, he’s still a quarterback adjusting to receiver. I’m disappointed he’s not farther along at this point of his career.
-I think I just had an allergic reaction when I read the name Dick Curl. My condolences having him on your staff. I wouldn’t trade a used football for either he or Herm, but if you want to trade Gunther for Bob Sutton, I’d gladly make the deal. Guther has at least done something in his career to merit being a coordinator in the NFL.

-I haven’t answered one of your questions. I’ve answered more than one.
Keep them coming, and let me know if I missed any.
It was supposed to flow:
All these questions come flying at you, and in the middle of a lull someone asks “Have you answered…”
But thank you very much
HEY!!! WINLESS??!!!
are you saying that we didn’t actually win against the Broncos, they just lost more than we did? There might be something to that…
To NYJ Fans:
What is the general consensus amongst Jets fans in regard to the Kansas City Chiefs organization as a whole? Do they think we’re a joke like a lot of fans in KC do? Are they not surprised? What is it?
Also, do you think Brett Favre is gonna have a record day against the Chiefs, and do you think he’ll get more than 50 points against our crappy D?
I'm curious too
as to what other teams’ fans think about the Chiefs organization.
I stopped in over
there at their blog, not a lot of commenters. NY fans do not support their team much like we do?
GGN
Is pretty new. It started within the last couple months if I’m not mistaken.

Answers Part II
-Brainlock on the winless comment. I guess my bias against Herm made me want to think his team is winless.
-Aside from the Jets, I root for the Yankees. I’m a Boston College alum so obviously I pull for them, and my family has Penn State ties so I root for their football team.
-I don’t think Jets fans hold any hostility towards the Chiefs organization, just their head coach who may or may not be the Jersey Devil. I think you guys may be onto something. Lord knows we have had enough God awful teams in New York to keep us from laughing at anybody.
-Anything less than a big game from Favre would be a major disappointment. I’m not sure 50 is what most Jets fans want. We want to see Kellen Clemens in garbage time.
