Chiefs Unlikely To Land Culpepper

From the FanPosts. -Chris

Apparently the brief conversation with Daunte Culpepper was more of a flirtation and a tease than the start of a torrid 10 game affair, as the Kansas City Star is reporting that the Chiefs are unlikely to even get to first base with the most desirable candidate in the bar at closing time.

The Chiefs aren't likely to move past the discussions phase with former All-Pro quarterback Daunte Culpepper, leaving more questions about which direction the team might go after losing Brodie Croyle this past Sunday.

The Chiefs were scheduled to speak with Culpepper on Monday, but it appears that's as far as the sides will get.

The Chiefs also were scheduled to observe a workout by former Tampa Bay quarterback Bruce Gradkowski on Monday.

Guess you really can't blame Culpepper...if he's paid attention at all to the 2008 season he knows that any quarterback who isn't in desperate need of cash should avoid Kansas City's offense like a barfly should avoid going home with whatever's left in the joint at last call.  All you'll likely get out of a hookup like that is a lot of disappointment and some sore junk.

From a Chiefs' fan perspective...maybe we'll get lucky and Gradkowski will sign here.  He's not good, but it's not like we've really got standards. He's as good as it gets at this point, so our disappointment will be minimal if he's terrible.

Figures...

Carl is such a turd, I knew the deal would not get done. Guess we will just have to watch Bones Thiggy try and keep the Chiefs from being shutout over and over again. Woohoo!!!

Man....

I was hoping Culpepper would land here…

as my buddy said, “I wouldn’t be mad at that”

I can't imagine

how anyone could be surprised by this news. If he was to come back it certainly wouldn’t be to K.C. He’s not (likely) strapped for cash. If he came back – it would be to try and win a ring. So if he really does still have the fire – why come to a really bad K.C. team when he could simply step in front of an oncoming bus. It hurts to say that but….

Strapped for cash

I know he signed a big money deal with the Vikings (reportedly $100 million) but it was completely backloaded and I think he got like a year out of that.

Still,

the contract he’d get in KC more than likely isn’t worth getting the crap beaten out of him behind the current O-line.

Not a Surprise...

Carl wants to hold off on his Super Bowl run—can’t we see this already?

by Ren on Oct 21, 2008 9:34 PM CDT reply actions

My bet is on Quinn Gray—he can run which will benefit him well. Swiss cheese is envious of the holes in our o-line and he will need to run for his life often. He has a decent arm, but not as good as Culpepper. Carl will like it since he’s cheap as dirt too.

I didn't really see the point anyway

Go with a young guy. Quinn Gray isn’t great, but who knows, he wouldn’t be the first QB ever to bounce around the league and suddenly “get it” and become good. Better to go with someone with upside than a guy that is at the end of his career.

We're past finding our QBOTF this season

We just need someone who can move the offense some of the time.

10 Games Left

That’s a really long time to just run out the string. Ugh.

Please, Chiefs, please suck for the rest of the season. Please be the worst team in football. Please be bad enough to make Clark realize that he has to fire Carl and Herm. It’s the only way we’ll ever be good again.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

I...just ...can't...do it.

You may be right. It might be the only way, but I still struggle with it.

Man I got a feeling

We’re going to win against the Jets.

I really do. I didn’t feel like this before that last two games.

We’re going to f*cking embarrass them.

by AngryJesus on Oct 22, 2008 6:15 PM CDT up reply actions

I like you optimism!

I think we will definitely play better than last week. And IMO the Jets aren’t all that. Probably one of the worst teams (minus Favre) that we have played this year. If we could only stop the run I would give Thiggy a chance at a victory. Thomas Jones may torch us though…

by TheQ on Oct 22, 2008 6:23 PM CDT up reply actions

No, I don't think you get it

I feel it. I mean, gut instinct. Animal.

We are going to beat them.

by AngryJesus on Oct 22, 2008 6:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe they should let Herm play

I am sure he has some pent up frustration he would like to get out at the New York Media.

I was serious when I said I liked your optimism

With all the crazy distractions that is going on around the Chiefs, I think you got it right. We should be concerned about the game this Saturday. I haven’t heard anyone but you mention that we even might have a chance Sunday. That is the way we should feel. I was just kidding about Herm playing.

by TheQ on Oct 22, 2008 6:47 PM CDT up reply actions

Word man

Don’t ever think I’m 100% serious.

Except in THIS case. We WILL beat them.

You Should Use Bolds And Italics Too

AnD ranDomiZe YouR cAPs…really drives that emphasis home.

Something I learned from the “truthers”. :)
