Chiefs quarterback Brodie Croyle is done for the 2008 season, according to head coach Herm Edwards, after leaving Kansas City's game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday with a left knee injury.

im curious how this was a blessing in disguise
he was either going to suck and we’d get a new QB next year
or he’d be good and we wouldnt need one
we never were and we still arent going to get a new QB mid stream, and i dont believe this will make herm’s stay in KC any shorter. If anything, theyll give Herm more time because after all “how can he coach when all his players are getting hurt? Its not his fault, its theirs”

I Won't Say Blessing In Disguise
The only upside is that it lets us know that Croyle’s not the future at QB. But it doesn’t help the players this year because Thigpen’s even worse than Croyle so there’s no upside. And remember that until Carl Peterson is fired, he’ll be drafting Croyle’s replacement…and he is probably the worst evaluator of QB talent in the NFL.

I think it IS a blessing in disguise
Because now there is no wiggle room like last year for saying “Well he did OK but didn’t really have the pieces around him to fairly evaluate him.” It no longer matters whether he does or does not have what it takes to be an NFL starter. All that matters is that he CANNOT do the most important thing: Stay healthy long enough to win.
As for your comments on Peterson, which as usual are overboard, Peterson will not be drafting the QB. He didn’t draft Croyle. Croyle was Herms pick and so will the next guy be.

If we look this bad
The rest of the season Herm will be GONE! So he will not pick our next QB!

Maybe. Maybe not
I wouldn’t get my hopes up if I were you though.

How did you get invited into the war room?
As for your comments on Peterson, which as usual are overboard, Peterson will not be drafting the QB. He didn’t draft Croyle. Croyle was Herms pick and so will the next guy be.
Because neither Herm nor Carl have stood together at a microphone and admitted he drafted him and the other didn’t.

Herm has said
That when they were at that 3rd pick in 2006 they were discussing several other guys and he said: “You know what, we’re taking the QB.”
I’ll try to dig up a link if you’d like.

It's a shame
Croyle’s really had some hard luck. Those men? who are charged w/ protecting the Q.B have to accept some of the responsible what’s happening. K.C. now needs to sign someone who can step in and be a bandaid for the offense – but with the current life expectancy of a K.C. QB being less than a game – who’d want to be that guy ?? He’d better be made of steel.

The person in charge
Of putting the men on the field should be held responsible. He has gone mostly defense with early picks to detriment of the offense.

I predicted he would last 12 snaps.
I think he made it about 15. The dude’s, more fragile than a teenage girl’s emotions.

Deberg would've kicked ass
I’ll never forget him playing with a pin in his hand. Every time I’d see him get hit I’d cringe. Gawd knows he wasn’t the best QB in the world, but no one can second guess he was one of the toughest SOB’s that played the position.

He Was A Grinder...Definitely
I remember that pin game vs. Miami. Every time Okoye took the handoff from DeBerg he’d yank that pin out of place and DeBerg would be on the ground screaming as he pushed it back in. Just a warrior. Best ever at the play-action fake as far as I’m concerned.

Deberg is a legend in my mind.
Yes, I'm still alive. Sorry to disappoint you.

His determination may have been his downfall
This may sound a bit screwy but hear me out.
Most of the shots that Croyle took that led to injury (at least both this year) were a direct product of him hanging in there and making the throw he needed to make in the face of a charging defender. In his mind, he was being tough and making the play that needed to be made… he just got completely creamed as a result. I saw this happening a lot in the preseason and even on snaps before he got hurt. He would hang in the pocket (usually a fast-crumbling pocket) and make the pass only to get obliterated. Some of these plays Huard would have folded like origami and protected the ball but taken the sack. I think Croyle wanted it to work and he wanted to be the tough leader. But it was like the old saying – writing checks with your mouth that your ass can’t cash. Mentally he was tough enough to do what he was doing – but physically his body couldn’t hold up to that kind of a beating.
Like someone mentioned above, if our O-line had been a little better, things may have been different.
In any case, I wish him the best of luck in recovery and in his future. He might make a good back up for someone next year+.

I'll Say This For Croyle
He wasn’t shying away from the contact. He threw one pass out of the end zone where he got absolutely helicoptered by an end blowing by Sackintosh, but he took the hit. I wasn’t that high on his potential, but he’s a tough kid…it’s just a shame the body didn’t match. I do wish him well, whether he ends up with the Chiefs next year or elsewhere.
