Can we please...
...pack Herm into a car and drive him to Lawrence for a little coaching 'how to' from Bill Self???
I'm sitting in my office reading about KU's media day and stumble across this section of the article regarding their goals for the season:
----------------------------------
From www.kusports.com
“We won’t change what our goals are. Every year our goal is to win the league. At the end of the day, we want to play as close to our ceiling as possible. There’s nothing wrong with setting the bar high.”
That’s despite KU losing five starters off its title team.
“I don’t know what the ceiling is,” Self said. “We had a motto at Illinois when we started three freshmen and a sophomore: Youth is no excuse. We lost the Big Ten championship in the last second of the season. Just because we are young doesn’t mean we can’t be good. How good I have no idea. We don’t want to bail guys out of lofty expectations just because we are young.”
---------------------------------Now it strikes me that all we've been hearing from Herm from the very end of last season was that our team was going to be young, that they were going to make mistakes and that we had to be patient.
The bailouts have been there from day one for our beloved Chiefs.
It seems to me that great head coaches demand excellence. I continue my belief that Herm is not even a good head coach, much less a great one.
He can evaluate talent proficiently. He can deliver a press conference soundbite.
Heck, he might even make a pretty good defensive coordinator.
He is not a good head coach.

Hermism: “You play to win the game” -except if you’re young.

Excellent find
I always liked Bill Self, and I referreed his son in Champaign when he was there coaching Illinois. Tyler Self…watch out for that kid in 5-7 years…he is going to be awesome. I think he had close to a triple double in the game i reffed. I digress. I love that mentality…if you recall that Illinois team that Bruce Weber took to the title game in 2004 were Self’s players that he recruited. Not that this is a comparison between the two and more about Herm, I think Self is a better recruiter and Weber is a better game coach and motivator. Different topic all together…but they are both better at what they do than Herm Edwards. I am SICK OF LOSING. And you are right, it starts with the mentality that they have and the coaching on the field follows that. We want winners, and winners have a certain mentality.
If everyone worked as hard as me, I would be out of a job.

Hmmm...
Can we please pack Herm into a car and drive him to Lawrence for a little coaching ‘how to’ from Bill Self???
So you’re saying you want Herm Edwards to learn how to teach the Chiefs how to play basketball? :)

We could get Tony to play guard..
…although he’s want to go play for a contender.

He Was A Forward At Cal
So we’d have that working in our favor. Hmmm, this idea has unexpected merit now. :)

That's right
I istyped that he played guard for the Golden Bears. He did make it to the sweet sixteen so there’s potential. Sixteen regular season games….sweet sixteen. I see a pattern there…lol.

It Wasn't Herm Bashing
I was making light of mikvogel’s suggestion that Herm should get tips from Bill Self on coaching. Lighten up, dude :)
