Chiefs vs. Titans Poll
Having been off for two weeks we can assume that the team is rested and will come into Arrowhead with fresh legs. The coaching staff will have had plenty of time to prepare the Offense, Defense and Special Teams. They would have gone over the tape for the Titans and Herm has admitted they've gone over the tapes from the last 5 games.Lastly, we'll have had our starting QB rested and "healthy"
Hypothetically speaking, let's just assume what might happen by management. I think they'll play better, but it's the NFL and anything can happen...right? Heck, St. Louis won on the road with a "newly" appointed HC.
If you do believe a change would occur...what kind?
Would we change personnel on the field yet again?

I think Gun would get let go....
… I just think that if we get blown out, he’s the next scapegoat

Unfair scapegoat
He’s an easy scapegoat because his defense gets tired easily when the offense is only on the field 3 plays at a time. What was the time in possession stat from the last game???
Blame my wife!

Is It Really Unfair?
I mean, I like Gun too, but in his four years of being back here what have his defenses really done? And that’s working for two different coaches.
I don’t have a problem with keeping Gun, but I also don’t think it’s completely unfair if he’s made a scapegoat. The defense isn’t doing a very good job this season in any capacity.

But
I do think that he’s not the biggest problem. I just don’t know if he’s part of the solution.

His defeneses in the 4 years he's been here
Started out terrible from the team he inherited, and significanly improved every year, up until this year of course. How could you not remember how much our defense improved? Our offense is the reason our defense looked bad, but in reality they werent. Gun did a great job.

+1
on the unfairness of becoming a scapegoat if he does. It’s too early to point fingers at Chan though so that leaves him and possibly the quarterbacks coach (Dick Curl) depending on Brodie’s play.

Gunther's Defenses
Here’s the listing of where the Chiefs’ teams have ranked defensively. His defense actually gave up more points in 2007 than in 2006…those two years they leveled off. He’s never fielded a squad ranked in the top 10 in either yardage or points allowed. So his work hasn’t been great, although I’m also willing to concede that may be a factor of having to run Herm’s defense, which it doesn’t appear he’s a great fit for (which isn’t necessarily his fault).
Would I be happy if Gun came back? Sure…he may very well be able to turn it around when he doesn’t have to work within Herm’s constraints. Does he deserve to be a scapegoat? I don’t really think so. But he also hasn’t done anything in the last four years to make a firing a terrible injustice.
And yes, I’d rather see Dick Curl go than Gun.

Are you just referring to his years since he came back?
He’s never fielded a squad ranked in the top 10 in either yardage or points allowed.

Yes
His defense’s best statistical season in points was 11th, in 2006. His best statistical season in yardage was 13th, in 2007 (but of course his defense’s allowed regressed to 13th that year).
That’s not to take anything away from his defense’s performance while Marty was here, but his defenses haven’t been anything special since he came back. And Jon Yoon wrote a good column on MVN today pointing out that this whole “Gunther’s coming out of the booth” stunt he’s pulling has been tried before and it didn’t work…and that the parts of the defense Gunther took over personally (linebackers) are worse than last year.

He is starting 3 rookies
and we have yet to field a MLB.
You can’t win with 10 on the field.

Agreed...
…but I think Carl would blame him to save his hide…so would Herm. Solari got brought in this season by Herm and Carl so they couldn’t go to Clark and say “hey, we were wrong”.
It’s a game…in more ways then the obvious.

Solari?
You mean Gailey?
Agreed that if they decide they need a scapegoat, Gun’s the most likely choice.

Solari = Gailey
I have not seen any change in our offense this year except for a couple of audibles being called by the QB. It’s probably just Herm’s playbook being used. The OC position is just a shell.

He might be
the obvious one to look to….but hes not, Our offense gets no production, and with a young inexperienced team 3 plays to sit out and look over what the other team is doing and re-group isnt enough time. I like Gun hes agressive and the players like him. We might see alot change after he comes to the field instead of sitting in the box

Didn't gun make the switch from booth to field under Vermeil?
Does anyone else remember that? As I recall the difference was negligible.

Vaguely remember
And if it was under Vermeil, then I’m sure the defense didn’t improve because we sucked then.

To booth under Vermiel, Gun was a little to fiery for Dickie V.
