What could have been...

Here's how yesterday could have went down in my vivid little mind:

Damon Huard traded to New England for a conditional pick, a 6th rounder that could make it up to a 4th rounder if Huard plays 80% of remaining snaps and they make the playoffs (assume for the sake of my dream it does indeed become a 4th rounder).

Patrick Surtain and a 4th round pick traded to Green Bay for QB Brian Brohm.

Larry Johnson traded to Philadelphia for a conditional pick that becomes a 3rd rounder.

Tony Gonzalez traded to Buffalo for a 2nd and a 5th round pick, like Carl was asking for.

Napoleon Harris to some ill-advised team for a 7th.

2009 Draft result: 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6, 7, 7 and without the need to draft a QB. Brohm could develop this year and be our full time starter by next year.

Dreams are so much nicer than reality.

Agreed

This isn’t Madden, Vince. :)

Hey,

we can dream all we want. Like my dream of somehow turning Surtain and a 2nd-round pick into Nnamdi Asomugha and Antonio Cromartie – oh, wait, I just did that in my franchise.

I'm Fielding Flowers and Talib As My CBs

And Keith Rivers and Jerod Mayo are lighting people up in the linebacking corps.

Now that’s a rebuilding movement I’m definitely behind…even with Herm still in charge. :)

Yeah, you and your fancy

up-to-date Madden can have all those 2008 rookies. Me and my PC have to wait until next year.

That still pisses me off to no end – EA having the exclusive license from the NFL, and then arbitrarily deciding to drop Madden from the PC lineup this year, leaving absolutely no NFL football for us. Of course, they soon realized this mistake – just not soon enough.

EA Is A Mess

I’d boycott their products entirely except that it’s almost impossible to do if you play video games on any kind of scale.

Madden 08 was very nearly it for me on playing video football. That glitchy piece of crap was horrible. But they’ve rebounded nicely with 09.

i still

think we should have traded Nap for a pick as well as surtain for whatever we could have got and used the picks received to move up in the draft if we need or for trades, anything.. this teams needs extra drafts picks for both of those reasons. The only reason I didnt want to trade Huard was, if Croyle went down we would have had to rely on Thigpen…..we know how they goes…

Why Trade A Pick

For a linebacker who can’t get playing time in a bad linebacking corps and who’s a great candidate to get cut? Nobody was going to give anything up for Napoleon Harris. Nobody was probably going to give much up for Surtain either. Except for Tony G, nobody was interested in the players we had to offer.

I wonder

Did we keep Surtain for a lack of offers or because we’ve got 2 rookies behind him?

by primetime 07 on Oct 15, 2008 4:53 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Probably Both

And because if we keep him until next season his cap hit from cutting him will be less than his salary. We’d pay more if we traded him this year.

Any way we can

sneak Carl into the deal as well? Maybe we could bump the pick up to a 3rd.

On second thought, that package would probably lower the compensation. It would be interesting, though, to see just what we could get out of Crazy Al.
