The Eagles met the asking price for Tony Gonzalez, and they were still turned down!
Carl trying to appease the player and screwing everyone in the process except himself by hoping fans still come to spend money to watch one player (Tony) Enough said!!!
Now that the trade deadline has come and gone, a lot of Eagles fans are left scratching their heads at why the Eagles did not trade for Tony Gonzalez when they absolutely needed a playmaking tight end.Well, you can't say they didn't try.
ESPN's NFL insider Chris Mortensen Reports that the Philadelphia Eagles did indeed offer the Chiefs asking price of a 3rd rounder for Tight End Tony Gonzalez. When initially turned down the Eagles threw in another piece to sweeten the deal but the Kansas City Chiefs still did not accept their offer.
The Chiefs are telling everyone that they did not receive what they were asking for. Well, they asked for a 3rd rounder and the Eagles provided a 3rd round pick plus another pick/player for the Hall-of-fame bound Tight end and they still did not make the trade. This has left Tony Gonzalez scratching his head and feeling disrespected by the team that he has done so much for.

Read the FanShot
Carl wanted a 2nd and a 5th. He said he needed a 2nd to even start the conversation which is about right.

That's not waht he told Tony
Read my earlier post. He had NO intent of trading Tony. He needs him to sell tickets and wouldn’t give him up.

Well
Carl said he asked for a 2nd and 5th. And if he didn’t get it TG wouldn’t be traded.
And TG wasn’t traded so that leads me to believe he meant what he said.

Anybody else have the feeling
that if the Eagles would have offered a 2nd and a 5th, Peterson would say he wanted a 2nd and a fourth? Anyone?

They did offer...
used jock straps since Carl wanted to be a part of the package and go back to Philadelphia with Tony.
They offered used ones and the deal fell through.

Per Tony
"Nobody is going to trade a second for a 32-year-old tight end. All along Carl said he would do something that works for both parties. Then he talked about how he traded a third for Willie Roaf, and he made it pretty clear to me that’s what was going to get it done. That was certainly fair."

Ah
I see your point. Not sure what happened that Carl switched it to a 2nd and 5th if that is indeed what he told Tony. Or TG could be inferring incorrectly.

Let me be the devils advocate
Per Tony:
he made it pretty clear to me that’s what was going to get it done.
Sounds like he was clear to me.
I want “The Truth”. And if there are those that can’t handle “The Truth” (Carl) since they are playing both sides then that’s too bad.
Tony sees the writing on the wall. He even inferrs that they (Carl) had no intent of trading him and they were leading him on.
If they said from the get-go, ‘No, we’re not going to trade you,’ that would’ve been better than how this whole thing unfolded. But that’s not what happened."

They jerked around
our Hall of Fame tight end to boost ticket sales. That’s what happened.

EXACTLY RIGHT
That’s exactly what I was thinking. Carl wanted it “to seem” like he was going to trade Tony to appease him.
It backfired when THE TRUTH came out.

I'll say it again if someone has said it before
or I’ll say it first iof no one has, Tony is playing his final season with the Chiefs regardless. Why kill yourself for a GM/President/CEO/Head Usher/Senior Ticlet Salesman/HNIC and all the other titles he covets, that simply only cares about the man who looks back at him in the mirror?

Yep
Barring a career ending injury, he’ll be gone in the off season. Even if it’s to Buffalo which he turned down OR it might be bad enough that he’ll go to any other team.
I wonder if Tony still considers Carl his “Second Father” like he did a week ago? I bet he wants to retract that.
