Kansas City Chiefs president Carl Peterson gave every indication that his team will not be making a deal in the final hours before the NFL trade deadline of 4 p.m. ET, Tuesday.
"No, nada, nothing, zero," Peterson said, from the fall owners meetings, when asked if he had any possible deals for some of his high-priced veterans. TE Tony Gonzalez, RB Larry Johnson and CB Patrick Surtain have all been rumored to be on the trading block for the Chiefs, who are in rebuilding mode.

nothing like a little hype
to distract from the abject failure of the rest of the organization

No kidding
But still….I wonder if anyone really did make an offer. I heard reports that the Giants offered a 6th (and we countered with a 3rd). But then I also heard the Bills offered a 3rd. Who knows

if ANYONE offered a third
they should have snapped it up. He’s a tight end for crying out loud

He's A Major Weapon On Offense Who Just Happens To Be A Tight End
Seriously, what are the odds that we’re going to find a player in the third round who could offer near the utility to this team that Tony Gonzalez will for the next couple of years (assuming he plays out the remainder of his contract)? Pretty much nothing. And what would the damage be to our offense for the next couple of years if we let him go? Pretty catastrophic, even considering how bad this offense is to start. Trading Gonzalez makes no sense…he’s worth more to us than anyone’s willing to pay and what we could get for him doesn’t come close to outweighing what we’d lose if he left.
For better or for worse, Tony G. is a Chief. And I’m fine with that…and I think it’s something to be happy about.

it's very hard to imagine this offense getting any worse
coming off a shutout. Yes, he’s a good player. He’s done wonderful things here. BUT…we need picks, not two more years of a player soon to go into decline (if not there already).

Not For Him
The offense can improve next year (if we get a new head coach). A coach can start building an offense using Tony G. as a major cog (not for the long-term, but as a starting point). If we let him go next year we’ll have Bowe and nobody else. That’s how bad offenses stay bad, throwing away their top talent for questionable prospects (which is what a third-round pick is).

You realize
our top draft pick could very well be Michael Crabtree (who is physically amazing, talent-wise amazing, and has no signficant injury questions, he’s a dream), which would make the argument moot. And hey, that way we don’t draft a QB, which makes you happy too!

Bowe and Crabtree
and a quarterback, be it Brodie, Brady, JP, Sage, whoever, that’s an offense that can move chains.
Which is exactly why it won’t happen.
Man, I’m really negative today.

wow
i bet tony will be looking during the off season. hopefully chiefs can turn things around and win some games. we got good players. the defense isnt being productive cuz their always on the field so they get tired. we need better offensive play calling. we should have gotten Mike martz as offensive coordinator. not Chan Gaylord or what ever his name is.

... because?
Martz would rather be an Offensive Coordinator than a Head Coach?

Ugh
Martz running this offense? His QBs get sacked enough as it is…imagine that with McIntosh playing tackle. Croyle would last about five or six snaps. Huard might last 10.

Martz
Is a team killer. We don’t want anything to do with him.
He’s probably the most worrisome thing for a head coach to have to deal with because sooner or later he’ll throw the coach under the bus to take his job. Ugh.

well
Chan hasn’t done n e thing spectacular yet has he? martz has doubled 49ers offensive production, bad thing is they still have no offensive line. chan hasn’t done anything yet. to much poor play calling. between him and herm. they both need to go and some better people.

Be honest
if we drafted a kicker in the first round with our issues, you’d blow a hole in the tv. Yes? I would.

I'm happy for us
we keep a face of the franchise.
I guess it just depresses me when I look at how his career will likely end. He deserved better from us. Not in terms of trade, but in terms of getting him a ring.
And let’s just say LJ’s cap hit becomes more and more manageable every time he goes to the club.
I’d also like to mention that the odds are that no player we’ll draft next year, 3rd round or whatever, will ever be as good as Tony has been for this organization. All the talk of getting fair trade for him was bunk.
I should be thrilled, I want to be thrilled. But I’m just sad. Sad for him, sad for us, sad for this franchise that used to matter.

4-12 at best this year….it would be very interesting to see if they can get inside the Tennessee 35 yard line this week

But apparently the front office
takes the same view as some of us do, that we’re not moving him unless it’s for a 2nd rounder or something.

So I’m awaiting word that the Chiefs have traded Tony Gonzalez.

So he's GretzLock now...
I thought the deal was also as good as done. Kinda relieved that it didn’t happen, but it doesn’t look good for the offseason.

Unrelated: Dallas News reporting
Dallas gave up a 1st, a 3rd, a 6th, and a 7th for Roy Williams.
Yeah. That’s right. These deals are impossible to get done and there’s never a GM willing to pull the trigger. Sigh.

Was wondering why Carl was willing to move LJ, when he supposedly loved the guy.
Was charged with simple assault for an incident in Feb. at a KC night club.

you clearly don't understand
he had 1700 yards a few seasons ago. That not only excuses the rest of his behavior, but validates the… wait for it… LARGEST CONTRACT IN CHIEFS’ HISTORY, and makes him untradeable.
Kill me.
