Idea: We should trade Derrick Johnson and Dwayne Bowe too
Complete sarcasm of course but in the span of 8 months there is a chance that Carl will have traded away the ENTIRE nucleus of proven talent on this team. Jared Allen, Gonzalez and now LJ - I just don't know what I'd do with all these gone. Good luck to Tony wherever he goes though.
"In addition to Gonzalez, FOX Sports has also learned that in those calls, the Chiefs have also been offering star running back Larry Johnson as well, informing teams he could also be available for the right offer."

For the right offer
Being the key phrase. I highly doubt any team will make the “right offer” for Tony G or LJ. Its tough to say that we weren’t given the “right offer” for Jared Allen though.

The Jared Allen Deal
Was a good trade. Carl got value for him. But I find it regrettable that we got to the point where we had to trade him, and a lot of that can be blamed on Peterson. When you’ve got a 26 year old defensive end with those kind of pass rushing skills and your defense depends on a good pass rush, then your GM should be smart enough not to alienate the guy in contract negotiations. Our wasn’t.

Yes
No doubt some of the Jared Allen situation was Petersons fault, but Jared has to take his share of the blame for it too.
The guy went out and got two DUIs in a contract year and had below average performance that year (only 7.5 sacks). Maybe Jared knew that he had changed, but you dont hand over multi million dollar contracts on the word of someone.

I Agree That Jared Allen Was Largely At Fault
But Peterson still handled that in about the worst way possible until a trade was the only remaining option.

"we weren’t given the "right offer" for Jared Allen though."
The way he’s playing this year, the Vikes may agree with you.

Down side of the career
Now Allen was at the top of his game (possibly a career year) when we traded him and he was still young but wanted nothing to do with the team (management is still part of the team). So trading him was probably the way to go (I personally would take Albert, Jamaal, and DaJuan over Jared)
LJ and Tony – They are both on the down side of their careers for thier positions and due some to this and some to things outside thier control they will probably just get worse from this point on. So if we can move them for good compensation I say we do it, it will be better for the team in the next couple of years than hanging on to aging stars who are past their prime.

Chiefs = Royals
Let’s look at the histories of the two. Once a proud franchise? Check. Well-respected team owner passes away? Check. Trading away star players for junk or just losing them altogether? Double Check. Signing has-beens on their last legs in an attempt to fill gaps? Check this one as well. Maybe Carl Baird can get us a third baseman, catcher, and starting pitcher for Gonzalez.
“Good evening friends, I’m Tony Gonzalez. I’ll be playing the part of Carlos Beltran in tonight’s performance. This is my good friend Jared Allen, AKA Jermaine Dye. Damon Huard guest stars as Johnny Damon because they both throw like girls. Pat Surtain has a cameo appearance as Chuck Knoblauck. Last but not least Brodie Croyle will assume the roll of Mike Sweeney, the often injured good guy we keep paying to stay off the field. Enjoy the show.”
Please turn the channel. I’ve seen this show before.

Actually
Jared Allen would be the Carlos Beltran. Tony Gonzalez would be Mike Sweeney. Brodie has never been good enough to be compared to Mike Sweeney…he’s more of a Chris George or Jimmy Gobble.

Could Carl Peterson be the Gerorge Brett that admitted "pooping his pants"

Further Royals Analogy
Carl Peterson would be John Schuerholz, Herk Robinson and Allard Baird. Great at first, then devolving into ineptness and self-delusion in how they managed their team. Although it should be noted that Schuerholz actually got the Royals to the Series, twice, and won it.

I don't see...
how we are going to move LJ. It just doesn’t make sense to trade because of the cap hit we will get, unless some team gives us one of those godfather offers we can’t refuse. LJ is 28 and worst comes to worse he will become a short yardage back for us when we compete for a title. Kinda like Jerome Bettis for the Steelers. And he is a young 28, he rode the bench for the first two years.

That Doesn't Really Factor In When It Comes To The Running Back Decline
Marcus Allen rode the bench for two years and he still declined after 31. It’s just something that happens to running backs…you can speed up the decline by overusing them (370 carries or more) but you can’t really put it off. After age 31 running backs either become complementary backs with a much smaller workload or their yards per carry plummet. Only exception I’ve found to that was Walter Payton (and he declined after age 32).

Made up for riding the bench
The year he carried over 400 times more than made up for the year as a backup. LJ is never going to be the back he was in 2006 again, I don’t know why people keep acting like he is still a top 5 back. Other than the denver game what has he done, and Denver might as well be a wet towel for all their run stopping ability.
