"Carl has been like my third father figure so he understands me better than anyone in this business," he said. "He knows we're going to experience some growing pains for a while and I asked him to let me finish my career on a team not in a rebuilding mode. Normally I don't think it would be considered, but we have a different relationship than most."

Tony G
“It has to be a deal that works for both sides,” he said. "That’s what we talked about, only doing it if we can find something that works for both sides.
So hopefully if it doesn’t work out, this won’t devolve into a lockeroom problem. I think Tonys more of a professional than that.
On the other hand, later in the article they mention shopping LJ as well. Makes you wonder what HIS attitude is going to be like if they don’t succesfullly trade him (and its really the same situation as with Tony G, we will never get comparative value for what he does for the team).

I Don't Think He'll Cause Problems
He’s been the consummate professional in how he’s handled everything. I also don’t think he’ll retire if we don’t trade him, mainly because he’d have to repay the remainder of his guaranteed money and that would be about $6 million he’d have to fork over.

Agreed
he’s always been a class act and if it can’t happen, he’ll understand it’s part of the business.

LJ On The Other Hand
I’ve got no problem with dumping him. Running backs aren’t that tough to replace and if we can find a running back who’s about two-thirds as good as LJ in rushing but who’ll do all the stuff on field that LJ won’t deign to do (pass blocking especially) I think we’ll be just as well off.

Yeah
Heard that from Jay Glazer. Haven’t found anything else about it yet though.

Every time I think about Tony being traded,
I feel like giving up. With Tony gone, who can we count on to make ANY plays on offense? Just D-Bowe, (and LJ once or twice a month), and our already anemic offense will just be that much worse.
I’m ok with losing as long as we have good plays and players sprinkled in with the rebuilding effort, and the more good players we trade away the harder it is to have any hope for anything but shit-show after shit-show for the rest of the season. Like I said, I can cheer loudly and passionately at losses, knowing that we’ve got nowhere to go but straight ahead in this rebuilding project, and hoping ever play that something good will happen, but I think for the first time ever in my life I would lose a LOT of interest in watching the Chiefs, because I don’t think I’d have anything but the faintest glimmer of hope, every time we snap the ball.
Does this make me a fair weather fan? I don’t know. Maybe. I guess I just need a couple players to pin my hope on, that SOMEHOW we’ll pull some drives and scores out of our ass, and give us fans something to cheer about. Without TG, who can we pin our hope on? LJ? No. He’s been completely uninspiring for all but 1 of the last 10 games he’s played in. Blame the line, blame the OC, whatever, but he’s not one I can pin hopes on. Charles? Exciting player. Hardly ever gets on the field. Bowe? Absolutely. But one consistent threat on an entire offense is not a recipe for success. Especially an offense as conservative as ours. Our QB spot is in shambles, our line is a mix of old and young w/ one constant: not very good.
I dunno…this is mostly just a ramble. But I definitely need some players to pin my hope on. Getting rid of TG would cut that number (on offense) by 50. And that is hard to swallow. Faith is one thing, absolute freakin 100 BLIND faith is another.

actually, thinking about players to pin hopes on,
if we trade LJ AND Tony (sorry to bring it up Chris, but looks like its actually being considered), I’ll feel a lot better, cuz at least we’ll be handing the ball off to an unknown (Smith is known, but we’d definitely get more rookie action in there), as well as passing the ball to an unknown TE (Cottam or whoever).
Our offense without LJ and Tony sounds better to me than our offense with LJ and without Tony.
Any thoughts?

then what?
So we have no offense now… then we unload the only 2 guys with any productivity. Then what? We expect Bowe to do EVERYTHING!???? (especially after our 2 only other threats we have at all, are gone) I guess we’ve become the kind of team that gives up 6 WEEKS in?!!!!! Oh but we’ll get some draft picks…. ’cuz those work out for us…. (ironic, our 3 best draft picks in the history of the team, we trade away within 6months of each other. For draft picks.)
I guess the “re-building” isn’t a re-model. Its a demolition.

Really?
Did you finish typing that depressing ramble and finally realize (2 minutes later) that there actually is no hope?
I’m no salary cap guru but if we unload LJ don’t we take a pretty big hit?
Also, I might actually enjoy watching Tony G contribute something to a team that might actually make a difference. I’m not sure what we can get but I’ve heard anywhere from a possible 1st and 4th round picks to a 2nd and 6th.
