If you are one of those fans, then you should know something about the potential selections. Over three days, we’ll provide you with a look at the top 25 quarterbacks that could be available in April ‘09.

Bob Gretz

I'd be curious to hear everyone's thoughts on the two Big 12 QBs Josh Freeman and Graham Harrell.

Freeman has the tools, but lacks consisttency

Harrell looks like a product of the system.

Sam Bradford I think is well liked on this board, and I concur. I also really like Mark Sanchez as a possible 2nd/3rd round selection.

I'm not big on Bradford or Sanchez.

I also haven’t watched either of them enough to make a valid argument for or against either one of them.

have you seen my baseball?

Watch Bradford against Texas tomorrow

it might be the toughest game of his career so far.

Well

I have seen him play a few games, since I knew so OU fans, but he’s not been really impressive enough for me to really pay attention to.

Unfortunately, I won’t be watching any games due to work. great time for a Chiefs bye though.

I've heard good things about Bradford

Though I’ve never had the opportunity to watch him. I think I heard he still has two years of college eligibility left if he decided he wanted to stay in school though.

You never know what players are going to do, especially with all the talk of getting a rookie salary cap. You might end up with players coming out early to try to get what they can now before the cap is put in place (though realistically its probably years away if they do it at all).

Commented on some of these yesterday

This is my feelings on the list Gretz had so far, I say either yes, no or ?, this is as to would I draft this QB in the first 3 rounds. Several of the players I would look at taking later as a project but not in the early part of the draft. And just because I say yes doesn’t mean I would take them in round 1.

The two things I consider most important are completion % and games started – can’t teach accuracy and I want lots of film (no one year wonders)

So here is my short comments:

RHETT BOMAR/Sam Houston State (SR) – No – Pct under 60%
SAM BRADFORD/Oklahoma (SO-R) – No – not enough starts
TOM BRANDSTATER/Fresno State (SR) – (?) – if % gets above 60% for career
NATHAN BROWN/Central Arkansas (SR) – (?) – level of competition a question
HUNTER CANTWELL/Louisville (SR) – NO – not enough starts/bad %
RUDY CARPENTER/Arizona State (SR) – Yes – good numbers over long career
CHASE DANIEL/Missouri (SR) – (?) – system QB & size questions
NATE DAVIS/Ball State (JR) – Yes – good numbers

JOSH FREEMAN/Kansas State (JR) – (?) – if continues improvement in % then yes
MAX HALL/Brigham Young (JR) – No – will not have enough starts for me
CULLEN HARPER/Clemson (SR) – Yes – intelligence outweighs lack of starts
GRAHAM HARRELL/Texas Tech (SR) – (?) – possible system QB
TIM HILLER/Western Michigan (JR) – Yes – a little worried about competition level
CHASE HOLBROOK/New Mexico State (SR) – (?) – possible system QB
COLIN KAEPERNICK/Nevada (SO-R) – No – not enough starts
CASE KEENUM/Houston (SO-R) – No – lack of enough starts

Good breakdown tevans

You’ve got an excellent point about the number of starts for some players. Players need time to get experience and learn before they go to the next level where everythings faster and the players are better.

The accuracy % is very important as well.

Josh Freeman....no.

He is Andre Woodson Version 2.0. Looks really good right now, with his frame and size and cannon arm, and will likely be projected to go in the 1st round. But the more tape that scouts break down, and see all of the dumb decisions are made (and the system K-State uses to minimize those mistakes), he will slide big time. I wouldn’t mind taking a flyer on him late, just wouldn’t have minded a 6th-or-7th round pick being spent on Andre Woodson.

Graham Harrell, I’m not really sure. His statistics are certainly inflated because of the system, but he is definitively more talented than the past system QBs they have had (Kliff Kingsbury, B.J. Symons, etc.). Depends on how he looks in private throwing sessions and, more importantly, the Senior Bowl and stuff, but I think he has a pretty good shot at being a good NFL QB.

Bradford is clearly the prize of the Big 12 QBs, and my favorite pro-style QB in all of college football (with Sanchez of USC a close second). Absolutely love Sam Bradford. I don’t think he leaves early this year, though, and will come back to school. That is just a hunch, though, and definitely could change when being faced with all of those zeros.

Freeman

I think he’s actually worse than Woodson. He’s got little mobility and he’s still got issues with long-range passing. But he’s looking good so far this year so I’m curious to see what he could do his senior year. I think he’s probably a guy who needs to stay in all four seasons in college.

Harrell I like a lot…I think he’s a solid QB and not just a “system QB”. Bradford seems solid too. I think he’s the one to break the Oklahoma string of QB failures for the NFL.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

I love Bradford.

I like Harrell, too, but probably wouldn’t take him before the 3rd round (maybe 2nd if he looks really good at the Senior Bowl in more of a “traditional” offense).

But, going back to Bradford, I really think he is the real deal. I haven’t got a chance to sit down and watch an entire OU game thus far this year, but from what I saw last season and the snippets I’ve been able to catch this year, he looks really good. But again, I really like Sanchez as well.

All Good Choices

And I agree with you on Harrell’s apparent draft position so far.
