Your Sunday NFL Playoff Viewing Schedule

V.

Giants @ Bucs, Noon, central time on Fox.

V.

Titans @ Chargers, 3:30 central time on CBS.

That Jags/Steelers game yesterday showed exactly why you watch every NFL playoff game. Good for the Jags too. I like their style of football and I'm happy to see it succeed.

Who ya got today? I'm taking the Chargers over the Titans and the Giants over the Bucs.

My keys to the first game include Eli, Eli, Eli. He makes or breaks their season here.If he plays like he did against the Patriots, then this Giants team can make a run. However, if he plays like the "other Eli" then the Giants have problems. On the flip side, Jeff Garcia is the key to a Bucs victory. He's been fairly conservative this year with minimal mistakes.

Another interesting side note: The teams that have played the Patriots within a couple of scores this year, well check out some of the stats of the QBs the week after their respective Patriot games. It's insane. Interceptions aplenty. It's like teams get so jacked up to play the Patriots the next week is a huge let down.

My prediction: Giants 24 Bucs 20

Most everyone is picking the Chargers in the other  game, but I see several problems with that. First, Tennessee can play the run. If Albert Haynesworth can give them 3/4ths of a game, then Tennessee has a legitimate shot to win this game. If they can slow down LT, and give Philip Rivers more responsibility to force him into some mistakes, then this could be an interesting game. As for the Titans offense, I'm on the Kerry Collins boat. I think he gives the Titans a better chance to win. Running the ball is tough against the Chargers so the passing game will be crucial. I would rather have Kerry Collins throwing the ball than throwing up every time I see VY's throwing motion. And, as far as I know, VY is not 100%.

My prediction: Chargers 31 Titans 17

Typo
Giants/Bucs is on Fox

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 11:33 AM CST   0 recs

High stakes
How much does Eli have left on his contract?  I assume they're definitely keeping him, but he's definitely not the franchise QB he was supposed to be.  Without the name Manning, he certainly isn't the #1 pick.

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 11:53 AM CST   0 recs

Right on
about Eli's last name upping his draft status. I don't really recall him being that heralded in college. Was he?

by Chris on Jan 6, 2008 12:04 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

The damn NY media
The east coast bias has got me.  While I shouldn't care much about Bucs/Giants, I do now.  All I hear about these days is Eli, Tom Coughlin and the Giants.  Haven't heard much, comparatively speaking, about the Bucs.

Jeff Garcia last 2 years
25 TDS
6 INTs

Can we get a QB like that please?

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 11:58 AM CST   0 recs

Garcia
has been underrated his entire career.

by Chris on Jan 6, 2008 12:03 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Tough picks
I really think the games could go either way today.  But in the spirit of wild guesses:

Giants 24  Buccaneers 14
(I just can't believe in any team coached by Gruden.)

Titans 21  Chargers 17
(Oooooh!  But you shut down the Chargers running game and they've got nothing.  I think Jeff Fisher has a lot up his sleeve, including benching Vince if he's not up to par.)

Re: Eli -- I think his biggest problem is his brother Peyton.  If he wasn't constantly compared to him, he'd be considered a decent (not stellar, but OK and growing) QB.  I feel for the kid.

by gritsnyc on Jan 6, 2008 12:04 PM CST   0 recs

Eli's bigger problem
The largest media market in the country

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 12:18 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Don't I know it!
My old boss is also a HUGE Giants fan, so we spent most Mondays comparing/contrasting the Giants and Chiefs.  I've missed that this season (I not only moved jobs but careers).

New York
Are the Giants or Jets more popular?

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 12:33 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

It's hard to say
In the city, I think the Jets are more popular, based on what team is better represented at the bars on Sundays.  Giants seem to be more of a suburban/Jersey team.  I don't know that that's an absolute -- just my observation (kind of like the Yankees are the city team; the Mets are Long Island's team).

The only NY-based team I root for is the Liberty, so none of it matters much to me!

by gritsnyc on Jan 6, 2008 12:40 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

That's some guts
to pick the Titans in this game.

It will be interesting either way.

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 12:23 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

You rag on Gruden
But he does have a Super Bowl win.

by Chris on Jan 6, 2008 12:30 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

He also built the Raiders team
that played his Bucs team in the Super Bowl.

Gruden is a very good coach and I would love to have him on the Chiefs.  Chucky!  Why are girls attracted to him?

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 12:32 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

I try to ignore that fact
There's just something about him that goes beyond Raiders ex-coach.  I think it's his face.

by gritsnyc on Jan 6, 2008 12:33 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Earnest Graham goes in
Undrafted free agent.

I was listening to the "Barber Shop" on Sirius a couple weeks ago, Tiki and Ronde's show, and going into the last game of the season, Ronde said their only goal was to get Graham 1,000 yards.  Anyone know if he got it?

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 12:31 PM CST   0 recs

Brandon Jacobs
What a freak. He's 6'4".  Backs that tall usually don't last long (Adrian Peterson and Darren McFadden).  That's why I'm a bit weary of those two in the long run.

But hey, I could be totally wrong.

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 12:37 PM CST   0 recs

Damn Gaines Adams
That line collapsed very quickly.

I guess their defense still has it.

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 12:40 PM CST   0 recs

If you were the Cowboys....
would you rather face the Giants or the Bucs?

I think the Giants have the potential to beat just about anyone, but rarely put it all together.

The Bucs are solid, not outstanding, but solid all around.

I would say I would rather play the Bucs.   They probably want to stay away from those divisional games trying to beat NY 3 times in one season.

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 12:42 PM CST   0 recs

Definitely the Bucs
There's too much divisional rivalry/emotion in any Cowboys/Giants game.

It's like Chiefs/Raiders in any season -- doesn't matter how well either team is doing, it will be a dog fight.

by gritsnyc on Jan 6, 2008 12:52 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Yeah
It's hard to beat any NFL team 3 times in one season.

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 12:53 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Steve Smith
Totally forgot about him.  Man, USC knows how to churn out good college receivers.

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 12:53 PM CST   0 recs

Aren't you glad
we didn't take Dwayne Jarrett over Bowe?

by Chris on Jan 6, 2008 12:55 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

That's funny you mention that
If you recall, I was pushing hard for Dwayne Jarrett.  I wanted him bad!

I just don't get it.  These USC receivers recently have everything physically and they're not panning out.  We'll see another one in Patrick Turner next year...

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 12:56 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

3rd and 9
Eli to Amani Toomer for the first!

This is an interesting chess match with the Bucs defense.  I imagine they're trying to bait him a bit.

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 12:55 PM CST   0 recs

Free Agent Watch
Keep an eye on Justin Gage in the Tennessee game. This, surprisingly, is not because he's a Missouri grad.

He's got some speed, runs inside and corner fade routes well, and will be in the middle to bottom of the free agent pack. Wouldn't he be a nice complement to DBowe, with some draft help to shore it up?

If I'm the Cowboys, I don't want to play either one of these teams. They've looked like crap, TO's going to be banged up, and Romo's been dipping in the Jessica Simpson curse waters down in Mexico. I'd rather have a shaky Seahawks team, but the Pack get them in Lambeau.

I like a lot of the Giants personnel, I just don't like their team, does that make sense?

Not criticising Herm Edwards for anything since December '07.

by Ridiculous Matt on Jan 6, 2008 1:04 PM CST   0 recs

Touchdown New York!
Okay, I'll admit it:  I'm rooting for the Giants.  I have to root for someone in the off season!

by gritsnyc on Jan 6, 2008 1:08 PM CST   0 recs

Redskins
They're my NFC team I root for.

I'm out of teams!

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 1:10 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

In my heart, I'm a Packer Backer
But it's nice to have a backup.

by gritsnyc on Jan 6, 2008 1:14 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Alright, MAWK...
How long are you going to keep up this non-criticism of Herm?

I bet it won't last long...

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 1:12 PM CST   0 recs

hey boys
guess who was the first to hear of jeff garcia? your friend up north, of course! Before he came to the NFL, he played for the calgary stampeders in the CFl which is where I am from haha so people are really big on him up here.

Also, I think that kerry collins would be a big mistake. I am about 95% sure that VY is going to play. The only reason they wont announce it is because right now the chargers have to gameplan for 2 completely different qbs. Also, I would not want to see kerry collins in there either. The only reason he looks good when he plays is that he is always coming in after VY, a running qb, is injured. The biggest reason the run game is so successful in Tennesse is because of vinces ability to run the ball as well.

Personally, i think LT is a punk baby who cries to much and hopefully albert, odom, and kyle vb send him back to the bench to yell at phillip a little more.

Titans win this one in the forth quarter.

by Ben S on Jan 6, 2008 1:16 PM CST   0 recs

O Canada!
Our home and native land
True Titans love
It's what their sons command

Thanks for backing me up, eh?

by gritsnyc on Jan 6, 2008 1:20 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

And then there were two
2 people backing the Titans.

Kerry Collins>VY

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 1:23 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

hahaha
you better keep an eye on kenton keith as well! He has looked pretty good for the Colts when he played, although it is the Colts O line... That is one position I think talent is comparable for the two leagues is runningback. Ricky Williams wasn't very good at all in the CFL, while guys like Geoffry Reonalds look like they could do rather well in the NFL.

By the way, does anyone here know the entire Canadian Anthem? I sure dont know the whole American one, just the first half. I will admit that the states have a better one...

by Ben S on Jan 6, 2008 1:33 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

I know the entire tune...
...but usually sing it something like this:

O Canada!
Our home and native land
True patriots' love
In all thy sons command

Hmmm hmmmmm hmm hmm
Hmmm hmmmmm hmm hmm
Hmm-mm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmmmmm
Hmmm hmmmmm hmm hmm
O Canada!
We stand on guard for thee!

God keep our land glorious and free
O Canada we stand on guard for thee
O CAAANada we stand on guard...for...theeeee!

(Not bad for a girl from Kansas!)

by gritsnyc on Jan 6, 2008 2:07 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

oh
and MAWK, good call on gage. He is rather under the radar. He is super quick and when he runs he reminds me of a lee evans type. He isnt that great, but hey, what titans recivers are?

by Ben S on Jan 6, 2008 1:18 PM CST   0 recs

No-no
I'm afraid of the Hermey police. They attack anyone that says anything bad about him.

Plus, I really do want to give him one more year.  If he turns things around, we'll have a tough team with a lot of young talent. Lots of fans have questioned coaches that ended up winning them Super Bowls, and they ate crow about it. I'm hoping for a steady diet of crow in 2008.

Plus, if we're 4-12 NEXT year, I can say I gave him another chance before I demand he be driven out of town on a rail, and when people say we need to give Herm another 8 years to get HIS talent in.

Not criticising Herm Edwards for anything since December '07.

by Ridiculous Matt on Jan 6, 2008 1:19 PM CST   0 recs

one more thing
I was reading that the chieeefe heads were going to try and take a peak at lance briggs. has anyone heard anything about it? I doubt it, but I have only seen one thing about it so i dont really know

by Ben S on Jan 6, 2008 1:21 PM CST   0 recs

I heard that
And what you just said was about the extent of it.

by Chris on Jan 6, 2008 1:22 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

really?
i hate it when you get the smallest of rumors haha. I'm going to check it out and I'll let us know if I find anything.

by Ben S on Jan 6, 2008 1:29 PM CST   0 recs

By the way
guess who is a free agent this offseason? Our old pal Albert Haynesworth! What I would do to have this guy play for the chiefs. Just thinking of our D line would make any qb cry himself to sleep. AH! Sweet idea!! (I know this will never happen so don't blast me for it, I'm just having fun) We pick up Albert, then in the draft Glen Dorsey magically falls to us where we snatch him up super fast. Boom! Possibly a top 5 D line to ever play football. Allen, Haynesworth, Dorsey, Hali. My fingers just quivered.... I have to go play madden right now I'll be right back....

by Ben S on Jan 6, 2008 1:41 PM CST   0 recs

Pricey
Dorsey, at the 4th or 5th pick, will be a $40 million contract.  Haynesworth will be pretty similar as well.  Are you willing to tie that much money up in a guy that hasn't proved he can stay healthy?

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 1:46 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Haha
no i know its not possible, but just put that all to the side and tell me how that D line makes you feel? It would be a pro bowl line. Sometimes I just like to dream.... haha

by Ben S on Jan 6, 2008 1:57 PM CST   0 recs

Ugh
I just saw a LJ highlite against the raiders last year....soooo good

by Ben S on Jan 6, 2008 2:02 PM CST   0 recs

I don't
want to see us bust the bank on a free agent unless it's Faneca or another top lineman.

I really think we need to give the LB corp another year together before we start criticizing.

I think busting the bank on Briggs or Haynesworth is overkill that will hurt us overall in cap room.

Not criticising Herm Edwards for anything since December '07.

by Ridiculous Matt on Jan 6, 2008 2:14 PM CST   0 recs

Agreed
Briggs especially I don't think would be worth it.  I don't want to bust the bank on a guy that who is probably very good, but it doesn't hurt that he plays with other fantastic defensive players.

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 2:19 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Uhhh, Eli?
About time for a turnover, isn't it?

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 2:19 PM CST   0 recs

That just sealed it
Giants/Cowboys next week.  Already looking forward to it.

See what happens when Eli plays well?  The Giants become a damn good team.

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 2:22 PM CST   0 recs

But
The Cowboys KNOW they can beat the Giants. And I just don't see Eli having two good weeks.
Not criticising Herm Edwards for anything since December '07.

re: John Henderson
Should play against the Patriots.

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 2:57 PM CST   0 recs

dave rayner?
rayner is the chargers kickoff guy.

whatever norv, whatever.

by rockchalk on Jan 6, 2008 3:37 PM CST   0 recs

I noticed that
Pretty strange.

re: VY, let him run, don't turn him into a pocket passer.  thats not what he is.

by primetime 07 on Jan 6, 2008 4:38 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

i heart vince young...
with just about any QB, with his WR corps and all the injuries and everything, the titans have no chance.

but with vince young, they do. he isnt as good as the favres and mannings and bradys of the world, but he is just as clutch. and in the playoffs, that is wildly important.

by rockchalk on Jan 6, 2008 3:44 PM CST   0 recs

I would just like to say...
a) I totally called the Giants game, including final score.

b) Tennessee on the board first.

If only I could have been so accurate when it came to the Chiefs...

by gritsnyc on Jan 6, 2008 3:47 PM CST   0 recs

Damn
I would be shocked if SD lost
