Morning Update (Temple to the NFL? Edition)

  • Here's a good article from the El-Paso Times on Eric Price, the Chiefs new wide receivers coach. Lots of quotes from his dad, Mike Price, who is also the head coach at UTEP.

  • I know I rolled out of bed this morning and thought, "What is former Chief Junior Siavii up to nowadays?" Arrowhead Addict has the answer.

  • So is Jim Fassel the new head coach of the Redskins or not?

  • The Falcoholic has a warm welcome for the Falcons new head coach.

  • The Chiefs looked at Tennessee QB Eric Ainge for the second straight day at the Senior Bowl, along with many others.

  • Jamarcus Russell does have a hell of an arm.

  • Just get used to lists like these right now -- top ten SuperBowl commercials of all time.

  • Nathan Alexander at Chiefs Coalition breaks down what will need to happen for the Chiefs to successfully trade down this draft.

  • Phil says if you think Eric Price is getting groomed to be Chan Gailey's successor, you're getting way ahead of yourself. I happen to agree.
I just read on a Chiefs Planet that apparently Tony Temple will forgo his senior year and enter the NFL draft. No official word from any other outlet but you have to think Temple's stock is about as high as its going to get. After a historic Cotton Bowl this year, where do you think Tony Temple falls in the draft? 5th round? 6th round? Around there sounds about right. I don't think you can say he squandered his talent. Like countless high school athletes who were highly touted before entering college, Temple's MU career hasn't worked out has favorably as he and many others had hoped.

You never know though. Temple could easily step into a Kolby Smith type role and excel.

Temple
Have they ruled on Temple's extra year of elgibilty yet?  They probably weren't going to give it to him so he has to go to the draft.

If the story is true
Then that's what happened. The deadline to declare for the draft was the 18th I think. He must have had some exemption.

I don't understand why he didn't get it
His true freshman year, he didn't play a snap until like the 8th game of the season against Nebraska.  He had 6 carries for 13 yards then doesn't play again for the rest of the season.  What do you have to do to get it?

Keep in mind
This is pure speculation at this point, as far as we're concerned.

And I have no idea how the redshirting works in college football.

Temple said
that even if he did get an extra year he still is going pro no matter what.

Carl
likes Temple could he wind up here as a RFA?

by Eric @ Arrowhead Pride on Jan 24, 2008 8:22 AM CST reply actions

Probably not
I think somebody will draft him, even if it's based on just his Bowl performance.  I have to believe some team will grab him in the 6th or 7th.

Definitely
Maybe like a Marcus O'Keith type of player?

Temple
if he is there in the 6th, do we have a spot for him?  It would be nice to have a hometown guy...and I don't think a 6th round pick is ridiculous for a 3rd RB, especially in an offense focused on running.

I had
heard Carl say that he wpuld like to see him in a Chiefs uni some, hebelieved he is an exceptional talent.

He said that
at halftime of the KU/MU game at Arrowhead this year.

The trading up or down article
is good, but it assumes we are getting the fifth pick.  How would it change if we got the 4th?  Also,  it sounded like he was not counting on Ryan going in the Top 4, and I thought the Falcons would be very interested in a QB, especially since they should get   any QB they want.  Even if ATL loses both coin tosses and picks 5th, they should be the first team to draft a QB.  (I know we won't take one, neither will Oakland or STL, and I don't think Miami will).

by PVChiefsfan on Jan 24, 2008 8:32 AM CST reply actions

Ryan to ATL
is virtually a lock in my mind.  The only caveat is Leftwich getting more time in the offense, but I think if Ryan is at 3 Blank and his new puppet GM will have to pull the trigger to jump start the franchise again.  They need that excitement.

I wish the article went a little further into what our draft possibilities could be (ie..what teams would want to actually trade up, who we could get at those picks etc, etc..)

Damn
Charlie Joiner went to a division rival!)Bucket of Bolts)

Chargers
are looking at Rucker...NOOOO!  We should draft him just so he doesn't end up playing for the Bolts, Faiders, or Donkeys.

by PVChiefsfan on Jan 24, 2008 8:41 AM CST reply actions

So are the Jets!
Hope that hometown talent does not come back and beat us!

Chargers
What are they going to do with Rucker behind Antonio Gates?  Gates still has lots of years ahead of him.  That would seem an aweful waste.

by DJ @ Arrowhead Pride on Jan 24, 2008 8:41 PM CST up reply actions

What makes you think he would be behind him?
I would think they were going towards more two TE sets...having two TE's that can block and catch opens up a lot in the play action passing game, since obviously they are going to respect the run when you are in a 2 TE set

by PVChiefsfan on Jan 25, 2008 7:17 AM CST up reply actions

Sproles?
I say if we had Sproles and Mason Crosby, 2007 would have still been bad but probably not 4-12 bad.
