What about Shaun Rogers?
From the diaries. I have to give it up for primetime and others for posting diaries as of late. Many thanks to all of you. --Chris
Shaun Rogers is going to be traded or released from the Detroit Lions.
Rogers is 28 and his career stats can be seen here.
I know there are a lot of people out there who think we still have issues at DT. Rogers seems young enough to have some left in the tank.
I think this would be a good fit. He does have 3 years left on his contract but if he plays up to his potential then I think it would be worth it.
"Rogers is immensely talented and can dominate a game. He has been to two Pro Bowls. But he doesn't always get the most out of talent, and Marinelli, a former defensive line coach, hasn't been able to reach him the way he reached Warren Sapp in Tampa Bay."
Defensive player having trouble hitting his potential: Meet Herm Edwards.

Not sure about that
It's hard to keep reminding ourselves because we've been in bandaid mode for so long, but we're not really trying to patch up quick holes for a playoff push for the next year or two.
What we need more than anything is to give our young players playing time to develop and how are you going to do that when you have free agent vets taking up playing time?
Not that we shouldn't get free agents, but if you figure by the time we draft players, give them a year or two to gain experience and develop, we're probably 3 years away from being serious Super Bowl contenders.
So what good does getting a guy like Rogers now do us when in three years when we SHOULD be looking for free agents to fill holes for a playoff run and he's 31 or 32 and maybe gotten some injuries and is past his prime?
I'm all for snagging younger free agents that will still be in their prime and playing by the time the team as a whole is ready for a playoff push, but really I think its a waste of cap space and even more importantly, a waste of playing time for developing young players.

Rogers has 3 years left
Don't know if we would even want to resign him after 3 years. He would be 31 years old at that point.
