A Diamond in the Rough -- Michael Oher

Very interesting video about newly declared OT Michael Oher. More to come this afternoon. This morning's been busy. Also, to whet your appetites, I hope to have a special interview up sometime in the next couple of days. I'm finalizing it today, which has taken up some of my time. I've only done one other interview and that was with the mayor of Kansas City.

AP's interview with the Mayor
is still the only post listed under "Fun Stuff" on the Mayor's blog. Check it out.

As I wrote in the Morning Update
Is there a better coach in the league for Michael Oher than Herm?

I know I have problems with Herm, but this is a match made in heaven.

This is a Tamba Hali story but better.

Still disappointed
the Liberian Nightmare never caught on.

Try it again
If Hali steps it up in his third year (and as long as he stays injury free, I think he will) maybe it will stick this time.  He looked much better, especially against the run, in our last 4 games.

This a is
a guy from my home area.  I am biased, but I think this young man is going to be really good.

His bio from high school
As a senior, was credited with 130 "pancake" blocks, allowing no sacks, and grading out at 90 percent ... Didn't allow a sack in his two years and had 200 "pancakes" and an 85 percent grade ... Helped lead Briarcrest to 10-3 record and 2004 state championship ... Earned two letters in football ... Coached in high school by Hugh Freeze ... Also lettered twice in basketball and twice in track ... Basketball team went 27-6 in 2004, winning district championship ... Averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds in basketball, earning All-State honors as well as making the Sun Coast All-Tourney team ... In track, was state runner-up in discus ...

Thomas and Thomas
I think its going to be both of them getting in this year, based on the fact Derrick wore number 58 and Emmit had 58 interceptions.

The reason I want Oher so bad
is that he is still extremely raw.  I think he has the potential (there's that word again) to be the best player to come out of this draft.

Tom Lemming ranked him the #1 LT in the country after just seeing a few minutes of tape of him.  And he had no weight training at that point.
