Housekeeping

Before we get into this Friday and the weekend, I wanted to make a couple of notes.

First, thank you to everyone who has been writing diaries. They're the engine of this site and as you can see, a lot of times the conversation is more lively there than it is on the front page. We have one of the best diary sections in SB Nation football. Again, thank you. Your good work does not go unnoticed.

Second, I used to welcome each new commenter to the site but that's becoming difficult to do. We've had a big increase in active participants on this site (don't be shy!) in the last month or so and I just can't welcome everyone without invading the conversation. So to all of you new commenters out there who I haven't welcomed, welcome to the site.

Finally, if you're a lurker who's been reading for a while and not commenting, please jump in the conversation. We're very welcoming here. You won't get insulted for your point of view but except to have it thoroughly beaten down if you can't back it up. The hallmark of AP is our intelligent commenters and we intend to keep it that way. Its pretty lively here on game days too when I put up our open game thread. If you get a chance, check it out this weekend and see what its like.

So, if you haven't already, register for a user name and begin commenting (It only requires an e-mail address and filling out about four lines). One nice feature of registering is that it keeps track of what comments you've read and which ones you haven't read in each post. So when your scrolling down the front page of AP,you can immediately see which posts have new comments that you haven't read. Pretty cool and it will only get cooler after we add some new features over the next few months.

I'll go ahead and make this a totally open thread this morning. Talk about whatever is going on in the world of the NFL/sports. Anything interesting you come across today, drop it in here. Got another post coming up in a bit.

Need help with my football picks.
Got a weekly pool I'm in.  What do you guys think about Chicago at Detroit?  I'm leaning Chicago but its a tough one.

Should I pick against the Chiefs this week?  I never have before but I'm thinking I might.  It just looks too tough.

You can pick against the Chiefs
and still want them to win. I think thats alright.

At Detroit? Hmmm...I still think you go Chicago on that one.

Ahhhhh no.
I love the extra-curricular betting that goes on with the football season, i.e. fantasy football, loser leagues, etc. . . . but I would strongly advise against betting against your own team.

It's just not right.  And I speak from experience, I am two time Super Bowl champion in my fantasy league, and I never play anyone against the Chiefs.  Hell, I don't even have anyone on my fantasy squad that plays in the AFC West besides the Chiefs players.

We are the biggest spread this week but resist the temptation.

You play to win the game!

you won two fantasy championships?
no way.

never heard that before...

I'd just like to take a moment to talk about...
... Brittney's career.  I'm worried about that young woman.  You know, her career- where she's headed and all.

Mike Vogel channeling Paul McGuire on a Friday morning open thread.

by mikvogel on Sep 28, 2007 8:28 AM CDT   0 recs

Haha
Saw that too...Odd.

by Chris on Sep 28, 2007 8:31 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

it wasnt paul mcguire
it was mike patrick.

they are both annoying though, so, whatever.

by rockchalk on Sep 29, 2007 5:40 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

No. It's not. It's not alright.
Christian Okoye will haunt your nightmares.  Bill Grigsby will shun you at the Price Chopper.  KC Wolf will stand idlely by as drunkard's accost your loved ones.  Steve DeBerg will break both of your pinkies and Marcus Allen won't sell you a used Kia.  You will find yourself drowning in Ozarka natural spring water, and no one will help you.  Kevin Ross will be waiting, just waiting, to knock you in the air off the sidewalk and into traffic.  All of your daughters will marry men name Elway.

Picking against the Chiefs is like saying you were okay with Bruce Smith doing the tomahawk chop during the AFC division title loss in Buffalo.

...shutter...it still hurts...it still hurts

I don't care how good Jason Elam is, I'm not going to admit it.  You pick against the Chiefs you're dead to not only to the Chiefs, not only to Kansas City, but to what they stand for: America, freedom, the irrational support of one's home territory, habeus corpus, the bill of rights and bar-b-que.

May the good Lord strike you down if you touch another spare rib after picking against the Chiefs.  May he have mercy on your ill-beggotten wealth, traitor.

Hmm
Nice job of incorporating Habeus Corpus into predictions for the KC/SD game.  Didn't think it could be done.

by primetime 07 on Sep 28, 2007 8:41 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

But
Marcus Allen said his Kia was so cheap I couldn't afford not to have it.

by primetime 07 on Sep 28, 2007 8:42 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Brilliant
And point taken. But I'm not rooting against the Chiefs.

What if I pick the Chiefs to win in the open thread on Sunday, pick them to lose in my weekly pool (for money mind you) but start the Chiefs' D in fantasy this week?

What karmic retribution can I expect?

by Chris on Sep 28, 2007 8:43 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

That was
more hypothetical than anything. I do have the Chiefs' D though...

by Chris on Sep 28, 2007 8:46 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Houston D
Detroit D wouldn't be bad against Chicago.

by primetime 07 on Sep 28, 2007 8:48 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Karma
About the same Karma as people who marry there 'second' cousins.

I don't care what conditions you throw in, you're still winding up with web-toed rugrats wearing Champ Bailey jerseys.

their*
*Clearly someone in my family tree bet on Oakland once.
