Open Gameday Thread - Kansas City Chiefs (4-11) v. New York Jets (3-12)

 VS.

When: 3:15, Central time

Where: Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey

The Jets on SB Nation: New York Landing Strip

Weather: Currently 37 degrees, high of 41 degrees.

Another game, another season. New York welcomes back its prodigal son Herm Edwards. Boos or cheers? I'm guessing boos.

I'm predicting a 16 to 9 Chiefs win. Six field goals? You betcha. Leave your prediction in the comment section.

Let's get this started.

GO CHIEFS!!!

Chris always picks the Chiefs
It's bad luck!

27-20 Chiefs

Let's see some offense!

Go Chefs!
Great ooogly moogly!

Welcome sir eccles
Your prediction for the game?

by Chris on Dec 30, 2007 2:54 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

One of these two teams has to win
High scoring, maybe 35-28, unlikely to be a Chiefs win.

Hmm, when was the last tie game?

Blame my wife!

by sir eccles on Dec 30, 2007 3:04 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Without looking it up
Pittsburgh against somebody in 2001? I think the game ended with Plaxico Burress catching a fifty yard pass at the one yard line. Burress had like 249 yards receiving that day.

Wikipedia says
Atlanta v. Pittsburg in 2002.

My wife says "Welcome to the Toilet Bowl".

Inactives
The Kansas City Chiefs have declared OT Adrian Jones, QB David Greene, RB Gilbert Harris, DL James Reed, DL Khreem Smith, TE Michael Allan, LB Mickey Pimentel, OL Travis Leffew inactive for Week 17.

The New York Jets have declared OG Adrien Clarke, CB Andre Dyson, WR Chris Davis, WR David Ball, OG Jacob Bender, P Jeremy Kapinos, QB Marques Tuiasosopo, TE Sean P. Ryan inactive for Week 17.

Interesting that James Reed is inactive. After playing most of the year, thats a clear sign that the Chiefs will put someone younger in one of the defensive tackle positions.

Beer
Just picked up a six-pack of the Blue Moon seasonal beer, Full Moon. Not bad. Not great but not bad.

by Chris on Dec 30, 2007 2:54 PM CST   0 recs

You're going to need it
I haven't been more apathetic towards a Chiefs game in a long, long time.

by primetime 07 on Dec 30, 2007 2:57 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Watch
the Chiefs and the other games with our draft position in mind.

by Chris on Dec 30, 2007 3:02 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Falcons are winning
Which helps us.

Go Rams!

by primetime 07 on Dec 30, 2007 3:04 PM CST   0 recs

chiefs victory, unfortunately
As much as I would love a #4 draft pick, i think the chiefs are going to muster a good 20 points, and hold the jets to 20 as well.  This game ends in a tie.  Just kidding.  Sort of. I guess chiefs 23, jets 20.

I'm excited to see the young guys play, and excited for an even higher draft pick if we lose.  Go young guys, and go Chiefs!

by thehulk on Dec 30, 2007 3:05 PM CST   0 recs

I will be blown away
if we score more than twenty points. We've only scored twenty or more points four times this season.

So sad.

by Chris on Dec 30, 2007 3:07 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Neither Kearney or Williams got a sack
so if Allen gets 1.5 he should win the sack title...in only 14 games...that guy is a stud.

by PVChiefsfan on Dec 30, 2007 3:15 PM CST   0 recs

Awesome
Thanks for the update.

by Chris on Dec 30, 2007 3:16 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Yes!
Something to look forward to.

Just received a signed Jared Allen football for Christmas.

Clemens just looked like Huard right there.

You can tell
even the announcers don't sound exciting to cover the game.

What a miserable end.

by primetime 07 on Dec 30, 2007 3:17 PM CST   0 recs

HD feed?
I've noticed that before.

by Chris on Dec 30, 2007 3:18 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Next year
we play at the Jets again.

And we play at the Patriots next year.

Tony G
needs 3 catches ro break the TE single seasaon receptions mark

by primetime 07 on Dec 30, 2007 3:20 PM CST   0 recs

Oops
10 receptions away from tying his record.

by primetime 07 on Dec 30, 2007 3:21 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

no i think he needs three to break
horseface's all time receptions record.  He needs like 12 to break the single season record which is his (103).

by PVChiefsfan on Dec 30, 2007 3:22 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Ahh DirecTV
i feel prophetic since i hear Mitch call the play like 3 seconds bfore it happens...first time this has happened...4th down stop!

by PVChiefsfan on Dec 30, 2007 3:24 PM CST   0 recs

Here we go Chiefs offense
Croyle needs a win.

by Chris on Dec 30, 2007 3:24 PM CST   0 recs

Kolby Smith
is hands down our best runner of the season.

by Chris on Dec 30, 2007 3:25 PM CST   0 recs

0-5 is ridiculous
No matter his stats, he's gotta win a game.  Just one.

by primetime 07 on Dec 30, 2007 3:26 PM CST   0 recs

what? three and out?
hooray...come on defense.

by PVChiefsfan on Dec 30, 2007 3:27 PM CST   0 recs

Do they have punters
at the combine?

by Chris on Dec 30, 2007 3:28 PM CST   0 recs

Derrick Johnson
was stride for stride with Cochtery on that deep pass.

by Chris on Dec 30, 2007 3:33 PM CST   0 recs

In case you're just checking in
Eddie Drummond still can't do shit.

by Chris on Dec 30, 2007 3:35 PM CST   0 recs

Battleship

go rams!
i hate the rams, but if it helps our draft position...

perfect scenario is all of our young players play well, especially croyle, but we still lose.

i dont want us to lose, per se, but i wont exactly be pissed off...

by rockchalk on Dec 30, 2007 3:45 PM CST   0 recs

Holthus just dropped the bomb on Drummond
said "I can't imagine how a KR could have a worse uear".

Great open thread!
Rolling over here, too. But an open thread isn't an open thread without a Tina Fey name drop. Anybody over here think she's sneaky hot? Besides Chris and I, that is...

by arrowheadaddict on Dec 30, 2007 3:49 PM CST   0 recs

yikes...
pretty bad pass there from brodie...

who is 99?

by rockchalk on Dec 30, 2007 3:50 PM CST   0 recs

kendrell bell making a play..
wow.

cant believe i forgot that.

surprise, surprise, surtain and law still suck.

we better cut them both, they both suck.

by rockchalk on Dec 30, 2007 3:51 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Falcons won
so I believe that even with a win we wouldn't pick later than 7th.  rams would make it 6th, or if we lose to the jets, maybe 2nd?!?

by PVChiefsfan on Dec 30, 2007 3:54 PM CST   0 recs

You mean
when we lose to the Jets?
Blame my wife!

Sack title going to Allen

by PVChiefsfan on Dec 30, 2007 3:57 PM CST   0 recs

Two sacks this game. He's got the sack title right?

Fuck. Jets TD.

by Chris on Dec 30, 2007 3:57 PM CST   0 recs

by penalty!
Blame my wife!

freakin losing record....
... Is costing me game coverage.

I live in Iowa- DesMoines to be exact.

I've been up since 3 am doing live tv for NBC (today show msnbc).

I knew I wouldnt be home to catch the game on my NFL Ticket, but I felt good knowing that I'd be able to tune into Mitch and the gang on local radio.

Much to my dismay when I tuned in the game at 3 what did I hear but an announcement that due to listener response the Chiefs game was being preempted in favor of womens basketball.

Could any of you loyal submitters jump in your car and zip up here to dsm and prevent me from jabbing my ears with an icepick???

Never mind.  I'll just keep updating the page.

Keep the posts coming with updates.

Should be a first down.

by Chris on Dec 30, 2007 4:06 PM CST   0 recs

Fake punt!
Jon McGraw on the fake for the first down. Tough run.

fake punts make this game more exciting

three points

Kris Wilson
I don't get the obsession with Wilson...can we just go deep to Bowe?

by FoxKC on Dec 30, 2007 4:20 PM CST   0 recs

Agreed
I don't see how he fits in the offense. He's not fast. He doesn't have especially good receiving skills. I don't get it either.

by Chris on Dec 30, 2007 4:22 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

The offense
sure is roaring now!

3rd and 9
our course...we have 3 linemen and 8 in coverage and they run a draw?  It's like we do exactly the opposite of what would work.

by PVChiefsfan on Dec 30, 2007 4:31 PM CST   0 recs

D-linemen
are making all the tackles...except 10 yards down the field.

by PVChiefsfan on Dec 30, 2007 4:34 PM CST   0 recs

And the red zone
defense shows up again. Nice work.

by Chris on Dec 30, 2007 4:37 PM CST   0 recs

could run this back and still lose his job.

by PVChiefsfan on Dec 30, 2007 4:37 PM CST   0 recs

Drummond will not be denied!
He was forced out of bounds at the 38 yard line.

by Chris on Dec 30, 2007 4:39 PM CST   0 recs

39 total yards
We have major problems!

by Chris on Dec 30, 2007 4:39 PM CST   0 recs

second half
Dwayne Bowe will have two TD's...

by PVChiefsfan on Dec 30, 2007 4:41 PM CST   0 recs

Where's D-Bowe been?  I haven't even seen him on the field yet.

by DJ on Dec 30, 2007 4:49 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

only have 79 yards in the 1st half...losing 13 to 3

by PVChiefsfan on Dec 30, 2007 4:50 PM CST   0 recs

#3 draft pick here we come
It's a headed that way.  Our entire O-line has cashed it in.

by DJ on Dec 30, 2007 4:51 PM CST   0 recs

that was a bunch of shit...the ball went right over battle.

by PVChiefsfan on Dec 30, 2007 4:59 PM CST   0 recs

hey guys
ive read this blog everyday for a long time so i decided i would make an account so i discuss stuff with u guys but anyways since everything is heading towards the 3rd pick , who do u think we will get?

by chiefs4life82 on Dec 30, 2007 5:02 PM CST   0 recs

Herm
realizes that Turk is too small to play DT when the offense can run between the tackles...Dorsey and Tyler could be a good pair of young guys to grow up together.
