Open Gameday Thread - Kansas City Chiefs (4-7) v. San Diego Chargers (6-5)

 VS.

When: Noon Central Time

Where: The Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, MO

Chargers in the blogosphere: Bolt Hype

Weather: High of 34, medium winds. Updated game weather is here.

A lonely city turns its eyes back to the Kansas City Chiefs, after MU's loss last night to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship game. Congrats to the Tigers and the Jayhawks on entertaining seasons.

Despite your feelings on the status of the Chiefs' season, this is a divisional game and the Chargers are the division leaders. The same song is being sung-- The Chiefs are still "in the race", despite our poor play. I'll be here the whole game so let us know if you're around. Before the game starts, make sure you check out Arrowhead Addict. They have updated injury reports and a picture of Boomer Grigsby and Larry Johnson's birthday party in New York. Seriously.

I'll continue my theme of always picking the Chiefs to win. I predict a similar score as the first meeting this season-- 27 to 20, Chiefs. Leave your predictions in the comment section. I'll list the inactives in there too when they become available.

GO CHIEFS!!!

Well
in my football pool at work, I was the only one who picked the Chiefs.  Oh well, we gotta pull it out.

Philip Rivers makes mistakes.  He'll give it up twice, a pick and a fumble.  We don't stop LT, but contain him to around a 100 total yards and a touch.  I haven't seen Chris Chambers play at all since the trade so I'll be interested in checking that out.

We'll probably win and sweep the division leaders, weird season just like the college football season.

Oh my god, change it to ESPN and watch Emmitt give us his take on the games.

"That offense doe...DO look good!"  He corrected himself to the incorrect grammar.  Painful to listen to him.

In Kansas City right now
It's overcast with a sprinkle of rain. The conditions shouldn't affect the game for the Chiefs. The warm weather Chargers, on the other hand, will probably be negatively influenced by it.

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 10:50 AM CST   0 recs

gotta pick the chiefs
and i can't wait until the stadium erupts after the first made field goal.  I'm going with chiefs 23 chargers 21, unless k-smith doesn't run like he did last week.  whether it ends up being his fault or the line's, if he doesn't run well today i don't see how we stand a chance.

Inactives for the Chiefs
Chiefs declared QB Brodie Croyle, RT Chris Terry, WR Eddie Drummond, DL James Reed, LB Kendrell Bell, LB Keyaron Fox, RB Larry Johnson, and CB Rashad Barksdale inactive for Week 13 against San Diego.

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 11:56 AM CST   0 recs

Right off the bat
Jared Allen sack! He's going to have a big day.

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 12:04 PM CST   0 recs

Huard
to Gonzalez.

Where have I heard that before?

by primetime 07 on Dec 2, 2007 12:07 PM CST   0 recs

kolby
practically threw that guy out of bounds!

by The DBowe Show on Dec 2, 2007 12:08 PM CST   0 recs

Almost to the red zone
Hopefully we won't freeze up.

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 12:09 PM CST   0 recs

kennison
's hands must be cold...

by The DBowe Show on Dec 2, 2007 12:10 PM CST   0 recs

John Carney
is already our best kicker of the season.

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 12:10 PM CST   0 recs

i am going to watch the game..
i decided.

i still dont like damon huard starting...

if he plays well, he better not keep the starting job...

by rockchalk on Dec 2, 2007 12:11 PM CST   0 recs

is it just me
or does huard's hair look a little greyer?

by The DBowe Show on Dec 2, 2007 12:13 PM CST   0 recs

Well
You have to admit that was fun.

I mean they drove the ball on their first possession.  I know these games eventually turn to shit, but we can look back on that drive & smile.

A big Gonzo reception.
Kolby Smith showing his prowess.
Threw it past the first down marker on 3rd down - that has to break some kind of record.
And most important, we made the field goal!!

Small steps.

Go Chiefs!

You play to win the game!

by tailgateandwin on Dec 2, 2007 12:14 PM CST   0 recs

We blitzed
And Tomlinson ran right through it.

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 12:16 PM CST   0 recs

im a little behind...
just got to the FG.

kolby smith is the main reason im watching this game. i love watching him run. a lot.

carney is already our best kicker. lets keep him for awhile, we dont need a young kicker...

huard looked good the first drive, but we still should have started thigpen...

by rockchalk on Dec 2, 2007 12:16 PM CST   0 recs

False start on the left tackle
He's already nervous.

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 12:17 PM CST   0 recs

Damn
DJ is fast!

by primetime 07 on Dec 2, 2007 12:18 PM CST   0 recs

surtain
completely burned.  is he running in syrup or was he just fooled?

by The DBowe Show on Dec 2, 2007 12:19 PM CST   0 recs

Ummmmmm
What the hell? Where was Surtain???

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 12:19 PM CST   0 recs

Most embarassing catch
I've ever seen.

What happened?

by primetime 07 on Dec 2, 2007 12:20 PM CST   0 recs

surtain sucks.
law sucks.

can we please play sapp, patterson and brackenridge the rest of the year?

im not joking.

come on herm, i thought we were in a youth movement. lets go all out.

it isnt like surtain or law are good any more or anything...

by rockchalk on Dec 2, 2007 12:20 PM CST   0 recs

Surtain
has steadily declined in the last five games or so, especially since the Cincy game.

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 12:22 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

*gasp* he went to jared
he came to play today, but then again, when does he not?

by The DBowe Show on Dec 2, 2007 12:21 PM CST   0 recs

i know it might be better to have us lose...
draft position and all.

but i still want to win this game SO bad.

we blew a couple of games this year, namely last week, and if we would have won just a couple we could be in AWESOME position in the division if we win today.

still, i want to win this game. really bad...

by rockchalk on Dec 2, 2007 12:25 PM CST   0 recs

INT!
Athletic play by Law...

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 12:34 PM CST   0 recs

say goodbye
to the short-lived return of damon huard

boooooooooooo

maybe theyre saying...huuuuuuuard?

by The DBowe Show on Dec 2, 2007 12:35 PM CST   0 recs

Pull him?
They won't put in Thigpen.  Right?

I mean I don't give a shit at this point, but I think we get to relive our romance with Damon Huard for another 47 minutes.

It's like seeing your ex at a party & you have to chat with them for fifteen minutes. It is so painful.  I mean maybe you see some glimpses of what you liked, but the longer the conversation goes on, the more you know you made the right decision.  And you just can't wait to get the hell out of there.

You play to win the game!

by tailgateandwin on Dec 2, 2007 12:39 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Gave it right back
This is better - saves Dustin Colquitt's leg for later on.
You play to win the game!

by tailgateandwin on Dec 2, 2007 12:35 PM CST   0 recs

Another INT...
by Huard. I don't really see what he saw to make that throw.

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 12:36 PM CST   0 recs

We missed you, Damon!
Seriously, what ever goes wrong when you close your eyes and throw it as far as you can?
Are we really letting Carl rebuild this team again?

by Pauli on Dec 2, 2007 12:37 PM CST   0 recs

Jared Allen
has personally killed two drives this game.

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 12:39 PM CST   0 recs

great field position
lets see how quickly huard can f this up

by The DBowe Show on Dec 2, 2007 12:39 PM CST   0 recs

The offense
certainly doesn't have the same feel with Huard under center.

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 12:47 PM CST   0 recs

Rivers
has passes of 37 and 40 yards this game. The WRs are so wide open that he's even completing shitty passes.

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 12:49 PM CST   0 recs

Samie Parker
just had the greatest catch of his career.

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 12:56 PM CST   0 recs

Look at that mobility
Niswanger is coming up limp

by primetime 07 on Dec 2, 2007 12:57 PM CST   0 recs

Why the HELL??
Why the Hell are they calling long bombs for limp armed Huard but wouldn't call anything down the field for Croyle????

by DJ on Dec 2, 2007 12:58 PM CST   0 recs

Probably
because we have nothing to lose.

Honestly, I think that's it.  It's a cop out for the play callers, open it up after we're out of the race so they can say hey we tried to open it up.

by primetime 07 on Dec 2, 2007 12:59 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Best play I've ever seen
from the Chiefs.

Jared freaking Allen just got a diving floater in the corner of the end zone for a touchdown!!!

by primetime 07 on Dec 2, 2007 1:00 PM CST   0 recs

Oh my god
Jared Allen touchdown! That was the best Chiefs TD ever!

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 1:01 PM CST   0 recs

Actually
that was a really athletic catch.

Hmm..

by primetime 07 on Dec 2, 2007 1:01 PM CST   0 recs

Just amazing
Absolutely amazing throw and catch.

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 1:01 PM CST   0 recs

If MVP truly means
most valuable, then Jared Allen should be towards the top in voting.  He completes the defense.

by primetime 07 on Dec 2, 2007 1:04 PM CST   0 recs

If Jarred Allen.....
isn't a Chief next year, We will have no one to blame but Carl. He deserves to at least be equally paid with the best DE's in the league

by custerflux on Dec 2, 2007 1:11 PM CST   0 recs

Ughh....
I'm starting to come around to liking Sapp, hope he's ok.....

by custerflux on Dec 2, 2007 1:13 PM CST   0 recs

It has to be windy in the bowl
Every pass is like a wounded duck.

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 1:21 PM CST   0 recs

Just over a minute left in the first half
Chiefs just got the ball. Will we push it?

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 1:28 PM CST   0 recs

Nope
Colquitt to punt after a Kolby Smith run on 3rd and long.

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 1:31 PM CST   0 recs

He absolutely
killed that ball.

Colquitt is the man.  Longest punt of the year, in the wind, in december.

by primetime 07 on Dec 2, 2007 1:32 PM CST   0 recs

Pretty typical first half
Defense plays well...score is low...

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 1:48 PM CST   0 recs

Nice 4th down conversion
Sippio is in and making some good blocks.

by Chris on Dec 2, 2007 2:06 PM CST   0 recs

I remember
those slants...

by primetime 07 on Dec 2, 2007 2:19 PM CST   0 recs

Kolby
looks good once again.
xX Bobby Bell Xx

by D Thomas on Dec 2, 2007 2:23 PM CST   0 recs

Hmmm
we can't score a touchdown without using J Allen.
xX Bobby Bell Xx

by D Thomas on Dec 2, 2007 2:35 PM CST   0 recs

Dustin Colquitt
80 yard punt.  Wow.

Inches from going out at the 1 yard line.

by primetime 07 on Dec 2, 2007 2:36 PM CST   0 recs

LOLChiefs
I maded u a footboll teem but I ruined it.
Blame my wife!

by sir eccles on Dec 2, 2007 2:42 PM CST   0 recs

NO!!!
We're blowing it!!!!

by FoxKC on Dec 2, 2007 2:43 PM CST   0 recs

Lack of big plays ??
Gonzalez 99 yards
Wide Receivers 33 yards
xX Bobby Bell Xx

by D Thomas on Dec 2, 2007 2:43 PM CST   0 recs

I hate Huard
I didn't used to.  I just thought he wasn't that great.

Now I hate him.

by DJ on Dec 2, 2007 2:52 PM CST   0 recs

Let's just call it
Season over. Zero chance of playoff berth. This sucks. Hopefully, we'll lose out and get a good draft pick.

by FoxKC on Dec 2, 2007 2:55 PM CST   0 recs

Pigpen Era begins
Hey - I am starting to like this gy.

What fun.

You play to win the game!

by tailgateandwin on Dec 2, 2007 2:58 PM CST   0 recs

That stadium is empty
Wow

They were desperate to dump these tickets.

by primetime 07 on Dec 2, 2007 3:02 PM CST   0 recs

Can you blame them
One touchdown by JARED ALLEN!!
xX Bobby Bell Xx

by D Thomas on Dec 2, 2007 3:06 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

WE SUCK!

by Eric on Dec 2, 2007 3:09 PM CST   0 recs

im excited
for the post-season press conference.

this because the season is over.  however, it was certainly over after the loss to the raiders.  i am excited for us to start building for the future though.
