Chiefs Promote TE Michael Allan to the Active Roster

The Chiefs also added tackle Joe Lobdell to the practice squad.

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club has agreed to terms of a three-year contract with TE Michael Allan, adding him to the club’s 53-man roster from the practice squad. Per Chiefs policy, no other terms of the agreement were made available. In addition, Kansas City added T Joe Lobdell to the practice squad.

Allan (6-6, 254) originally joined the Chiefs as the club’s seventh-round pick (231st overall) in the 2007 NFL Draft. He was inactive for the club’s season opener at Houston (9/9) and joined the practice squad on September 12th. Allan saw action in 36 games (29 starts) at Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington, catching 118 passes for 2,202 yards (18.7 avg.) with 29 TDs. He concluded his collegiate career as Whitworth’s record holder in career touchdown receptions (29) and yards per catch (18.7). He also set a single-season school record with 15 TD catches in 2005. Allan prepped at Interlake High School in Bellevue Washington.

Lobdell (6-5, 280) rejoins the Chiefs practice squad after spending three weeks on the club’s developmental squad earlier this season. He originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent in 2007 with the Indianapolis Colts and spent the first week of the 2007 NFL season on that club’s practice squad. The Northern Iowa product saw action in 35 contests (24 starts) for the Panthers, logging 21 starts at offensive tackle and three at tight end. He was an honorable mention All-Gateway Conference selection as a junior after switching to the offensive side of the ball from defensive tackle. Lobdell prepped at Lena-Winslow High School in Lena, Illinois.

The last time we saw Michael Allan was in the preseason. Also, I believe that Allan takes the spot of recently released offensive lineman Chris Terry. Might as well play the young guy.

Finally...
Wasn't Allen one of Brodie's (seemingly) favorite targets in pre-season?  I was hoping they didn't screw this one up like they did with Justin Phinesee.
I am not sold on Kris Wilson and I definately think Dunn joining Turley in retirement will be the best move he can make as an individual.
Also, like him or not, Turley should get props for his work with the retired players.  I found it interesting he basically announced his retirement in that latest article.

Turley's work with retired players
is a good thing.  For sure.  It shows that he cares.

But, it's also a short term band-aid for a long term problem.

Dear Kris...
... this is how a "real" TE plays.

Allen did look very good in the preseason and will hopefully get a chance to show off his hands vs a Detroit D which is open to big plays down the middle.

Youth movement here we come.

To be fair
Wilson hasn't been playing TE.  He's playing fullback and he's really not equipped to do it.

But to be fair
he has hands like a fullback too...keep tossing it his way, he'll catch about half of them...

Maybe Sunday
was a sign of things to come from Kris Wilson? Nah,he had his shot welcome Michael, you have a hall of famer to learn from!

I think thats key
I really hope that our next tightend, if its this guy or whoever, will get to be around to learn from TG.  Same with cornerbacks, Law and Surtain are shot, but I'd sure like for our new guy to be around them a year to pick up some pointers.
