The Kansas City Chiefs Lose a Game They Should Have Won

Chiefs lose 33 to 23.

Brett Favre gets his win against KC. The Chiefs played a terrible first half half but picked it up in the second half. But it wasn't enough.

Put your post game thoughts here. I'm still in shock over the last quarter of this game. The Packers scored twenty in the fourth quarter alone.

5-3 sounds a lot nicer than 4-4. We lost our chance to go up a game on San Diego. At least they lost too.

Who wants first?
I say we wait on the Huard/Croyle debate for about 40 comments. Sound good?

Can we blame the defense for this? I mean, they played great in the first half and got mutliple turnovers, but gave up big plays at the end.

Thoughts?

The two big passes
First to Driver then to Jennings.  Those were back breakers.  The offense kept it interesting in the 4th quarter.  But we're not the type of offense to get in a shoot out.

Huard, who still has my vote over Croyle, is starting to become worse.

This sucks
Adrian Peterson is the best back in the NFL period.

Cincinnati dropped off the face of the earth pretty quickly.

Washington just kicked a field goal to beat the Jets.

NO walked all over Jax.

Favre gave us chances to win, but also kept his team in the game with those two deep passes.

TV Coverage
I heard something like 95% of the country will be able to see this game.

If the stats are correct
Adrian Peterson put up 296 yards rushing, which I believe is an NFL record.

i hate both the colts and the pats
whoever wins, i want to lose as soon as possible so there is no undefeated team.

i do want the colts to win, mostly because of my intense hatred of the city of boston right now.

bench huard. start croyle.

by rockchalk on Nov 4, 2007 3:28 PM CST reply actions

huard played the worst ive ever seen a QB play
in the first half, hands down.

in the second half, he played decent, and showed that we can (gasp) move the ball downfield even with huard playing QB, but it almost felt we were moving the ball DESPITE huard, not BECAUSE of him.

basically, the first half was my last straw. i want croyle, and i want him NOW!!!

we will beat bad-to-mediocre teams with huard, maybe even a decent team every once in awhile. but we will never be a serious contender with huard.

we have gone over this before, numerous times. we know what we are with huard, a 4-4 team who is capable of scoring points, but not consistently. with croyle, we dont know.

even if croyle sucks worse than huard, which i highly highly doubt, we can always put huard back in.

bench huard. start croyle.

the refs
are already getting their Patriots stroke on.

Can somebody please make the "Damon Huard doesn't turn the ball over, so he should start" argument?

by Ridiculous Matt on Nov 4, 2007 3:33 PM CST reply actions

Hey Guys!
Party at my place! Lucky for us that one running back who doesnt ever try on any plays, especially his two touchdown runs, hes out!! That sure is a good thing because he doesnt care about the team. His foot folded like a napkin= out for atleast 1 week if we are lucky. My advice, eat your words about LJ right now, then go pick up Priest Holmes in your fantasy league.

by Ben S on Nov 4, 2007 3:57 PM CST reply actions

important note
my criticism of LJ is based on his attitude and his dumb decisions with the frustrating movement.

As long as he has lots of room to run and just has to run over safeties, he's incredible. He's got great breakaway speed.

It'll be interesting to see what Solari designs for the offense without that weapon.

LJ also had 53 yards, good for a 2.8 ypc average.

But two touchdowns!

Tough loss - Game & LJ
Really a heartbreaker of a loss, but you have those from time to time.

The worst part of this is LJ out with a sprained ankle, and by the look of it, its a bad one.  Who knows how long he'll be out with that, possibly the rest of the year before he's back to normal if it is indeed a bad sprain (I had a severe ankle sprain 12 years ago and it was 2 months before I could walk on it without pain, even still, it still hurts occassionally today).

This is a disaster for the Chiefs.  Yes they have Priest, but even if he is still as good as he used to be, he's been out 2 years, there's no way he can be an every down back.  He can't possibly have the stamina built up for it.  Kolby Smith is still an unknown entity.

Where does this leave the Chiefs the rest of the year?

by DJ @ Arrowhead Pride on Nov 4, 2007 4:15 PM CST reply actions

Like I said
pick up priest right now in your fantasy leagues. Another thing, this will ruin LJs record for conscutive rushing TDs by one player on the same team... Also, screw the 40 comments, Herm needs to bench Damon Huard. Worst part of the game:We actually have a 0.000001 chance at the end (which is still a chance) and Damon is throwing the ball 15 yards a pop. We need a new quarterback that can win which means putting Brodie in and finding out whether we will be drafting a QB or not.

by Ben S on Nov 4, 2007 4:21 PM CST reply actions

Also I just read the game thread
and I am pretty sure MAWK was talking about me saying that TG is a product of Damon Huard. Fact: If that is what he meant, he is an idiot. TG is better than Gates even right now, and it would show if Huard WASN'T playing. Just clearing that up...

by Ben S on Nov 4, 2007 4:23 PM CST reply actions

point
Dude, no way. If you're a Brodie supporter, we're on the same side! Same team, dude! Same team!

I was actually talking about somebody else with that comment. I won't say who, but his nickname starts with D and rhymes with smushshmohmas. He basically said that Tony wouldn't be as good this season without Huard. So there's that.

Also, there's kind of an unwritten rule around here that we don't devolve into name-calling. That's for Broncos fans.

It's all good, though! Up with Brodie!

by Ridiculous Matt on Nov 4, 2007 4:46 PM CST up reply actions

Ok sorry bout that
haha I love Tony and wouldnt ever say Huard makes him better. Anyways, what are the odds Brodie starts next sunday? i would say 1/15.

Ugh!
My week has been ruined. We had a great chance to make some headway in our division and we blew it. The only good news is that it will be cool to watch priest next week i guess. Anybody hear about how bad LJs ankle is? I heard it is just a sprain which is good, but that can still be very bad, and is the type of injury that can change a runner. Lucky for us, LJ is more north south, but no injury is ever good unless your ta-da priest holmes.

by Ben S on Nov 4, 2007 5:14 PM CST reply actions

asdf
It was harsh.  I totally thought we won the game.  I can't believe we are still in first place.

I just want to curl up now.

50 to 1
I just don't think Herm will rock the boat. I think making the playoffs is the only goal. And a 1-1 TD to INT ratio is apparently good enough for that.

I still want to know what happened to the defense.

by Ridiculous Matt on Nov 4, 2007 5:19 PM CST reply actions

sapp
I think Sapp still is garbage, made a couple of big plays but gave up a few.

by nillaguerilla on Nov 4, 2007 5:39 PM CST reply actions

The problem with the defense
is that they are spendng too mch time on the feild because our o line is so horrible hat we cant grind any time off the clock because we cant runor throw the ball. We are also vulnerable in the deep passing game because we dont have too much speed i would think, but who knows. We have the whole week to talk about it unforunatly...Crap, I could have studied for my midterm, but instead I watched the Chefs blow a lead with a horrible offense, and I watched a very gross injury which I would have loved to avoid. Ugh.

Croyyyyyllllleeeeee!!!

by Ben S on Nov 4, 2007 5:42 PM CST reply actions

On the TD celebration
Boy, I am surprised that we didn't get a penalty on that flag thing (awesome as that was).  However, that was using a prop, which I am surprised didn't get the flag.  What do you want to bet that the cheerleader dude was fired for pursuing LJ and handing him that flag?  Again, as cool as that was, that dude was a moron.  Also, we need to draft linemen not a QB.  That line is not getting them any holes to run through.

by MrFurious on Nov 4, 2007 7:23 PM CST reply actions

i disagree.
i have tivo, and watched the up close replay they showed several times.

if you look at his facial expression, he is shocked that LJ took it from him. he didnt hand it to LJ, LJ grabbed it out of his hands.

i am pretty sure it was just something LJ did on a whim, the guy always runs behind the end zone after a TD and LJ just happened to be a foot away so he took the flag.

i might be wrong, but that is what i saw...

it was awesome awesome awesome though...

bench huard. start croyle.

by rockchalk on Nov 4, 2007 7:37 PM CST up reply actions

yeah
the o-line should help less than 200 yards a game, the lack of mobility, and the "only throwing to Tony for 75% of the game" thing.

LJ will get fined for the celebration.

by Ridiculous Matt on Nov 4, 2007 7:33 PM CST reply actions

TG
Yeah it seems more and more Tony is Huards first and only look.  TG is awesome and no reason not to go to him as long as he catches it, but its just a matter of time before they start double teaming him and shutting him down like they used to do.  Then what will Huard do?

One thing I hate to admit though, but must...

How about Sammie "Stone Hands" Freaking Parker this year????

I've always hated this guy, but you have to admit, he's making some really nice catches when he gets the opportunity. That catch in the end zone, even though he was out of bounds and interfered with was awesome.

by DJ @ Arrowhead Pride on Nov 4, 2007 8:30 PM CST up reply actions

agreed on parker.
that catch at the end of the half, despite him being out of bounds, was simply insane. incredible catch.

and he didnt drop a pass today either, he was a target open most of the time when huard went his way.

the INT that clinched the game wasnt his fault either, it was just a bad play by huard.

he was the guy i was most anxious to cut going into the season, and i have to admit i was mad when we didnt cut him. but he has proven me wrong, along with almost every other chiefs fan in the world, and been a solid threat.

i think d bowe scared him straight, he finally realized that he would have to work hard for him to keep a job...

bench huard. start croyle.

by rockchalk on Nov 4, 2007 10:18 PM CST up reply actions

Parker...
I disagree. Parker's two biggest contributions to this game (and possibly this season) were long passes he should have caught, missed, yet "scored" with long pass interference penalties. Dear mercy, how does he have a job?

Parker
Its not his fault it was thrown out of bounds.

I just marvel every time he catches one because this season is the first time I've seen him do it.

In terms
of drafting a lineman? Thats why there are 7 seven rounds. We need a quarterback. Period. That was such a depressing game to watch because Damon Huard does nothing with the football, and other teams know that. Here is a defensive gameplan against the chiefs:Keep an eye on TG and D-Bo anp put 8 in the box. The worst part about it? It works! With a bad line and a new qb, we can run a lot of 3 step drops and not even worry about it.

Also, as amazing as Larry was with the flag, we wont be seeing that for a while because the mans ankle was turned into mush on that play. However, funny story. I went to a bar in lethbridge to watch the game and when Larry broke off that play I fipped out and almost got kicked out. Haha thats why you should never live in canada. Anyways....CROOOOOYYYLLLEEEEEEE!!!!

Huard
made some clutch plays to win the game and gun put us in horrible position to stop the deep pass. I admit Huard was bad at times but the lead-changing Touchdown pass to TG was flawless. Our pass defence lost the game several times. THANKS GUN!!!!!!

we have 4 wins and 4 losses.
in our 4 wins, we have had our defense shut them down all 4 times at the end of the game.

so one time they dont, and we all blame our defense?

doesnt seem fair to me...

blame resides solely on huard.

bench huard. start croyle.

by rockchalk on Nov 5, 2007 5:28 PM CST up reply actions

Just goes to show
Just goes to show that as improved as our defense is, its not YET good enough to make up for our pitiful offense.

Great defenses in the past have made up for inept or mediocre offenses and won in the playoffs, the Chiefs simply aren't at that point yet.

by DJ @ Arrowhead Pride on Nov 6, 2007 7:27 AM CST up reply actions

There were times last season when
even the Bears' defense couldn't overcome Rex "Oh! Was that receiver on the other team?" Grossman's mistakes.
