Looking at the Chiefs Remaining Schedule

Time to take another look at the schedule. We currently sit at 4-3 on the season. Here are my predictions...

  • Green Bay: W
  • Denver: W
  • @ Indy: L
  • Oakland: W
  • San Diego: L
  • @ Denver: L
  • Tennessee: W
  • @ Detroit: L
  • @ NY Jets: W
These predictions leave the Chiefs with a 9-7 season. That probably won't win the AFC west and I think its too early to be judging wild card spots. If anyone has the time today, you should check out the remaining schedules of other wild card contenders and see what we're possibly looking at come Week 17.

Denver
Can't tell with Denver.  They're barely winning games but we always have trouble with them.

Not sure I agree with the Detroit prediction.  We can beat them for sure.  And if we have any shot in the playoffs we have to beat them.

And WTF with San Diaaaaahgo?
Seriously, Broncos, Raiders, Texans, I mean it's no great commentary on us either.  But this instantaneous resuming of SD ass kissing cause L.T. is putting up fantasy numbers again is sickening.  NORV TURNER.  NORV TURNER.  Hello?  This teams sheets WILL be soiled come playoff time.  I'm not saying that they won't be decent, but if we win all those games excluding Indy up to that game???  At home???  I wouldn't chalk it up as a definite loss at all.

That said, we lose to to Green Bay, Denver, and Indy, I suspect Brodie Croyle will be starting and who knows what will happen.

I'm being realistic
We'll lose a few more games. Do you really see us going 11-5?

by Chris Thorman on Nov 2, 2007 10:11 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's possible...
At this point anything is up in the air.  We could easily still go 6-10 or 11-5.  I think that those specific win/losses selections go totally on what the media is projecting right now.  If the Chiefs get their act together and are contenders I say Detroit loses, it's a lot of Kitna hype and the NFC.  If the Chiefs choke, I wouldn't be shocked at all if we lost to the Jets.

I'm more worried about the Raiders at home regardless.  I think, there will be slide one way or another, I don't see this cookie cutter win/loss projection working out.

The Raiders win was big, it proved that the 2007 Chiefs aren't Terrible, but really this is just as, if not bigger of a game.  It's a must win, and to be honest I feel like every game up through Indy, including Indy is a "must win," because otherwise, why are we rebuilding if not to compete with teams like that?

6-10
You must be out of your rabbit-ass-mind if you think we could be that bad with our defence and home field advantage. We will be 10-6 at the end of this one.

If
Brodie Croyle starts we WILL lose all of our remaining games, Mabye 3 picks a game will teach you. Our pro-bowl defence will beat him down in the locker-room after being humiliated. This kid can't compete with Russell, Cutler, or Rivers. Sure the kid has a rocket-arm, but his decision making sucks!

by D Thomas on Nov 2, 2007 10:42 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

FYI
Croyle could be a better pro than Russell.  Neither of them have done anything.

by Joel Thorman on Nov 2, 2007 10:56 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

In
wonderland mabye. Russell has way more tools than Croyle, like legs.

Any of these names ring a bell?
Ryan Leaf, Tony Mandarich, Akili Smith, Brian Bosworth, Heath Shuler, Andre Ware, Todd Marinovich....everyone thought these guys had the tools too.

by Joel Thorman on Nov 2, 2007 11:20 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I see
your point Prime but Croyle is not in their league. Lets see, first overall pick vs third round pick. Dont use Tom Brady as an example either, he's a freak of nature. I agree we make Rivers look silly but we have their number anyway. Croyle lost the job to Huard by making some terrible decisions. I doubt Croyle will ever pan out, but his wife does have some nice tits.

Well
I see your point Prime but Croyle is not in their league.

Not in the same league as a bunch of NFL draft busts?  I agree.

by Joel Thorman on Nov 2, 2007 1:16 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

lets
just wait and see how he plays in a regular season/ post season game. If he gets us to the playoffs I will design the Croyle for MVP t-shirts.

Croyle is a joke
This guy couldn't beat out Huard for a job that Herm was dying to give to him.  He's a clown and after next season will most likely be playing for the Brigade after the Chiefs take Touchdown Tim Tebow in the first round.

by Bill Grigsbys Cirrhosis on Nov 2, 2007 2:36 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

If Tebow survives
the next year and a half...guy's gotta learn how to slide

by Joel Thorman on Nov 2, 2007 3:01 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Also
Russell had 271 more rushing yards than Croyle.  Croyle only played in 4 more games.

I'm missing your logic here.  I understand what the draft experts say about Russell, so I assume that's all you're going off of.

by Joel Thorman on Nov 2, 2007 11:27 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Russell also...
A little fella named Dwayne Bowe at LSU...

Ooops.

by Official Arrowhead Pride Parade on Nov 2, 2007 12:48 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Rivers
never looks too hot against us...we embarrass him.  Even when they have kicked our butts the last few years in SD, it is usually Tomlinson not Rivers that beats us...Allen has little Phillip's number and is always all over him.

by PVChiefsfan on Nov 2, 2007 11:16 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

10-6
I think we will win in Denver and slaughter the lions in Detriot. We should beat the Chargers in Arrowhead .They are the same team we beat-down in San Diego. As it gets colder our Defence will become more dominant and we will remain one of the toughest home teams in the league. We need to win the division and get a home playoff game to survive in the post-season. Without Rod Smith or Javon Walker we should beat the crap out of Denver in both games.
Derrick Thomas- G.O.A.T

by D Thomas on Nov 2, 2007 10:29 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Oh yeah!
I completely forgot Javon Walker was out.

by Joel Thorman on Nov 2, 2007 10:38 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Other schedules
The other wild card contenders have tough schedules.  Seriously, the team to worry about is Cleveland.  They have a cakewalk schedule, and they beat up bad teams.

I think Baltimore has no chance. Look at their killer schedule: @PIT, CIN, CLE, @SD, NE, IND, @SEA, PIT.  The Titans and Jaguars play in the toughest division in football.  Tennessee also has to go to Denver and Cincy and host Carolina & SD (and KC).  JAX has to go to New Orleans and Pittsburgh while hosting San Diego & Carolina.  We are all familiar with Denver's schedule.

Honestly, the Chiefs don't have to win the AFC West to make the playoffs.  A wild card is perfectly possible.

by Phil on Nov 2, 2007 10:56 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Which god did the Ravens piss off
to end up playing Indy and NE back-to-back?...ouch!

by PVChiefsfan on Nov 2, 2007 11:17 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Thats what they get
for going 13-3 last year.  First place schedule.

Devil come due
I have a theory that Ray Lewis sold his soul to the devil.  Accused of murder one year & the next he is the freaking Super Bowl MVP.

But a bad year wasn't what I hoped the devil was after!

You play to win the game!

by tailgateandwin on Nov 2, 2007 2:51 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Just a little math
I have a question.  Does the team with the best overall record win the division or is it the team with the best division record?  If the latter is the case, then we need 2 games...we need to beat SD here and beat Denver once.  That will put us at 4-2 in the division and the best SD could be would also be 4-2...but we would have beaten them twice.  Am I missing something (could we really be 6-10 and win the AFC West?)

by PVChiefsfan on Nov 2, 2007 11:21 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Division record
is a tie breaker if I'm not mistaken. Overall record counts first.

by Chris Thorman on Nov 2, 2007 11:23 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Chris
is right, the only time a division record matters is if there is a tie in overall records. Dont worry there wont be a tie this time.
Derrick Thomas- G.O.A.T

by D Thomas on Nov 2, 2007 11:26 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

It is division winners
which goes hand in hand w/ overall record.

by Joel Thorman on Nov 2, 2007 1:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Overall record
Head to head record
Division record

Then I think common opponents and it goes from there.

Detroit?
C'mon, Chris. You're better than that... lol

we'd better not lose to detroit
...because i'm planning on going to the game.
and the cleveland fans were unimaginably insufferable after our meltdown there last year.  definitely don't want to go through that again.

Off topic
If anyone actually cares, we're about to go over 200,000 visits for the lifetime of this blog.

We hit 100,000 in a little over a year and now we'll have another 100,000 in about two months. Not too shabby.

This Sunday is the key...
Looking at the remaining schedule is a tough exercise now, but should be pretty clear late on Sunday.  This is the perfect test for this team.  If the Chiefs can beat Green Bay they can also beat Tennessee, Detroit and Denver (at Denver).  Perhaps they can knock off a resurgent Charger team here.  A Chiefs team that loses to GB could very well have a long season ahead.  I believe Sunday is going to be the turning point of the season.  Somewhat counter-intuitively, I think either result has its advantages.  We win and...well, that's obvious.  We lose and we might know the answer to the big question by the end of the season: is Croyle the QB of the future?

by Ray209 on Nov 2, 2007 12:40 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Agree
They are on a similar level to us.  Are we going to be rising the rest of the season or falling?

by Joel Thorman on Nov 2, 2007 7:23 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

My predictions
    * Green Bay: W
    * Denver: W
    * @ Indy: W
    * Oakland: W
    * San Diego: W
    * @ Denver: W
    * Tennessee: W
    * @ Detroit: W
    * @ NY Jets: W

That's right - ladies & gents, we will be 12-4 come the end of the season.  Host a playoff game here & WIN.  Go to Indy and well . . . . stay tuned.

Just joshing.

Let's just beat GB this weekend.  It almost has a playoff feel to it.  Impossible to get tickets - weather will be beautiful.  Lots of GB fans to kick around after the game! heh

GO CHIEFS!

You play to win the game!

Tough game
TGW you'll have to let us know how many GB fans were at the game.  GB travels better than just about any team in the NFL...

Except for the Chiefs
I love it when I am watching the Chiefs on TV playing an away game and they do something great and you can hear our fans cheering (especially at St. Louis...from all the red in the stands you'd swear they were still the Cardinals!)...it happened this year at San Diego when Brackenridge returned that fumble for a TD

by PVChiefsfan on Nov 2, 2007 1:38 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Late to the party
Okay, first off...
    * Green Bay: L
    * Denver: W
    * @ Indy: L
    * Oakland: W
    * San Diego: L
    * @ Denver: W
    * Tennessee: L
    * @ Detroit: L
    * @ NY Jets: W

8-8! I smell an undersized Big East lineman!

The team I've seen all season is not beating the Lions. Trust me, I hate Matt Millen as much as the next guy, but this team has too many weapons on both sides of the ball. Their only weakness is their secondary. Luckily for them, our quarterback couldn't pass the gravy at Thanksgiving. Denver we'll sweep, they are terrible, but I can see us dropping one to them in a freak. San Diego is not the same team we obliterated. They have finally woken up. Which is bad. In all sorts of ways. I think we're a better team than Tennessee, but we always seem to lose one of those games late in the year, December in Arrowhead or not.

Can we stop bashing Croyle? We know nothing about him. Tom Brady did not beat out Drew Bledsoe in preseason. Does he suck? How about Carson Palmer not beating out John Kitna in his first season? How about Phillip Rivers not beating out Brees?

We know nothing about Croyle. If you want to cling to your "we're winning" arguments on Huard, that's fine (or bend the fabric of reality with the "he's mobile, and clutch!" arguments). But quit ragging on a guy that's never been given a chance in the regular season and the one drive he did have a chance at, he scored a touchdown.

We're awful confident against arguable the greatest quarterback of the last 12 years. I'm just concerned about the Packers D against Huard. Who knows, though?

Oh, God, the Indy game...
